gblick
Last night I cracked open the Old Charter BIB 1975/1984 that I found the other day. It's very tasty! Too bad it's only a 200ml bottle.
ggilbertva
How was that Hiram Walker's Private Cellar, Greg? I see it occasionally when I'm out dusty hunting, but I always decide I'd rather save my dusty dollars for something that's not Illinois bourbon. Is it tasty? The Private Cellar is good and I would highly recommend getting it. My thing is this when it comes to dusty bottles. Try what you can find. I find it intriguing to find older bottles and try them to experience bourbon that was distilled 20, 30 or 40 years ago. I was excited to try the PC because it was a bonded whiskey and not a KY bourbon and I wanted to see what differences, if any, I would experience. The nose was unique as was the flavor and finish. If I could find more of this, I would add it to my bunker.
ggilbertva
Last night enjoyed two pours, one OC12 and a '74 Old Fitz Prime. Man I'm loving these older bourbons.

MissingKY
Birthday Bourbon 2006, which is really quite nice, and a little Maker's. I know we sometimes like to rag on Maker's as a marketing machine, but every time I taste it, I'm reminded that it's a very enjoyable pour. Not super complex, but very tasty. smokinjoe
On to Blanton's. I must drink this faster. My brother-in-law keeps getting me bottles to help me complete my stopper set. Only 2 more to go ( "n." and "s"). One more pour, and he'll be forced to get me another! He's a pretty cool bro in law.
ggilbertva
GG, That is an amazing thing, how did it stay around this long? This bourbon was part of a chess set released in '68 and '69. I picked up a complete set for Spun_Cookie in MD late last year and poured off the decanters that still had bourbon in it. The results are a bourbon that is a deep dark color, robust nose and full of flavor. A really amazing bourbon. The chess set was purchased by a couple back in 1969 and sat in their closet for all those years. Now in their 80's, they decided to sell it and as a result....I'm enjoying some fine bourbon. As a side note, in some areas, finding old, out of production bourbon is not entirely uncommon. I'm finding stuff in DC going as far back at the 1960's. I don't understand how a bottle can sit around that long but glad that they are.

smokinjoe
A pretty darn good, wet, snow coming down right now. Just got back in from destroying my daughter in a snow ball fight, and pushing her down the hill on her sled. She did manage to get a snowball down the back of my shirt, so I'm chilly. OscarV
OK, I am drinking a W L Weller Centennial. It is a 12yo.It's a private store bottling, Whitehouse Liquors, Rochester, NY.This one is their Barrel #1.They did two.I can sum it up real fast, if you would like.If not hit the "New Post" option.Oh-Tay Buckwheat we are alone now. Here is my opinion of Whitehouse's Barrel #1.It is the best Pappy 15yo I've ever had.I did one whiff and I immediately thought,..."Why did Julian pass on this? And after tasting,..."This is the best Pappy 15yo that I have ever had!"
