The RR SmBSB/JD Private Stock and VOB are all at the curling club, readily shared and likely not long for this world. Glenlivet (one or at the most two pours) and KC (about a quarter of the bottle at best) are close to being toast. And I host the montly poker group this month, so a few others are probably slated for elimination. That should at least get me below 30 open, if I can resist temptation and refrain from cracking any others in the meantime.

Well, I'm getting a kick out of my post from May of 2011, a month or so after I joined the boards, so I figure if I post my list now, I can get a kick out of it a few years down the road.

My number of opened bottles has continuously ramped up since last October, and I think it's waaaay too many. This list does not include the half dozen or so open bottles of liquor which AREN'T whisk(e)y.

Then again, while I've been trying to diligently finish off bottles, I keep getting a hankering for opening new ones; I'm trying to resist. I might just be at the point of accepting this as normal (thanks in no small part to seeing how expansive the collections around here are!). If I like a whiskey, I want to make it last as long as possible, so I would only want to push to finish a bottle if I didn't so much care for it, but with so much open that I do love, why would I drink something that's not as good?

See, it's a Catch 22. I want to have Booker's and KC SB on hand. I'm not one much for delaying gratification... so I guess I fit right in here eh?:grin:

I have a mostly full bar setup, but in general I don't worry about more than 1x dark aged rum (currently El Dorado 15), 1x generic white rum, vodka (usually Rain or Tito's), and gin (Usually Citadelle, currently the older release of The Botanist Islay Gin). In addition to that, I try to keep a blended scotch that's good enough to drink neat but not terribly expensive (often JW Black, but currently Compass Box Great King Street Artist's Blend), and a lesser bourbon (currently Russell's Reserve 10) around for mixed drinks. I also happen to have a Greenore 8 Single Grain Irish whisky in my mixer collection, as I decided recently that I don't really care for it neat. If someone brings Tequila over and leaves it, I sometimes also have that. I have other flavored liqueurs that you commonly use for mixed drinks as well. So that's my mixing liquor. I have my open bottles to where I like them, six.

Nothing new or exciting like the latest BT special release or a trendy "micro-distiller" release.

Just some comfortable old guy booze.

L to R are;

Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit from 1998

Four Roses Mariage from 2009

Four Roses Single Barrel

That is a great and carefully selected lineup. If I have this open in my bar and these are all I get to drink for the rest of my left, I would consider myself very lucky!! I think the only thing I would add is a great rye like PVWFRR or Hirsch 13 rye. Hahaha

You are correct tigerlam92, a nice rye would work very well here.

I did search for some aged Willett rye in KY last summer but the best I could find was a 4yo, I passed.

I do have an affection for TH Handy in spite of it's youngness I find it interesting and tasty.

I never see Pappy & Hirsch up this way.
