BBQ+Bourbon
June Mariage's are very popular, I hear. :cool:good idea! My birthday is mid-june and the weather is always perfect! Now if somebody will ship a special bourbon to KC in June.....I'm so weak. I picked up the WLW I'd left behind. I't not quite as exciting as the GTS, but is well worth the $60 price tag, and is excellent neat. I added a little water and found it did not reveal anything but weakness to me.So now I have 2 wlw and 4 gts and 1 Handy for a fellow SBer. Going to pick up 2 more GTS and one more WLW for him tomorrow, and hit the dusty shop in the ghetto of KCK to score some old OWA for both of us.THIS HAS TO STOP! I need a bitchy girlfriend to keep an eye on my money. It's been scary the last couple days.
sailor22
Yesterday on a whim I picked up a Beam Duck Stamp "collectors" bottle. It looks to be standard 80 proof Beam juice and I thought it was from '78. When I took a good look at it I noticed a UPC code on the bottom of the box - so that dates it as after '80. I ws hoping to try some older Beam product but I'm not sure this qualifies.Does anyone know when this Bourbon was bottled?
Vosgar
Oh yeah...Pappy 15 has landed at Binny's...Picked up 2 bottes for the bunker today! Stopped in to Binny's to get a couple of goodies and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the Pappy 15. Only bought 1 bottle though. Also bought an OFBB and 5 bottles of WLW 12yr (4 of them for FB Joe - he can't stop himself)

T47
A buddy of mine just came back from a trip to TN. and brought back a nice Four Roses Small Batch for me. Just what the Dr. ordered with all this rain and wind.
docbible
Picked up BTEC 93 and 97 double barreled, McScrooges weller antique NAS 107, EWSB 00, BT white dog , and 4R mirage 2009. Looking foreward to these, had to sample before i got home. The weller is very nice, probably the best that I have sampled NAS or 7yo stated. tim

OscarV
Did some "Dusty" hunting yesterday.Snagged me a Wild Turkey old brown label 80 proof.Got it in a store in Battle Creek while my wife was gambling at the casino.I did a search and came up with 12 stores in that area. When I saw the old WT 80 I told the lady behind the counter that it was a very old bottle. She said, "No it's not, we just got our deliveries in."Does being in retail mean you never have to tell the truth? doubleblank
In the thread about WT Tradition 14yo, I posted that there is still some Tribute here in Houston. It is my alltime favorite WT. After taking my brother to the Dr, I stopped in at one of our honey holes here in Houston. I picked up 5 Tributes at $100 per, a Jim Beam 200th Anniversary 95 proof from 1995 and some Siete Leguas Anejo Tequilla for $21.99 per. I left IW Harper 15yo's, ETL Gold Wax, etc etc. Randy
OscarV
Randy, why does Texas have so much good stuff on the shelfs? Is it because the retailers over order or the consumers under consume?
doubleblank
IIRC Texas is the number one bourbon consuming state. I know it's number 1 for Weller products. While other parts of the US are short some Wellers, KC, etc, it was always on the shelves here.My guess regarding why we still have so much on the shelves.....is because we have so many Mom and Pop stores. Over 400 liquor stores in Harris County alone. Many are fairly small, but pride themselves on having a great selection....particularly whiskies and tequilas. You won't find any Tribute in the busy big-box liquor stores. One owner in particular has about eight stores. He likes to have what others don't have. As his (and other's) supply goes down, he keeps raising the price. He still has WT 12yo on the shelf.....at $99. And he prices his stuff differently depending upon the store's location and clientele. I know of another store with lots of Tribute....priced at $120 because most are signed by Jimmy Russell. And he prices everything with a pricing gun. Some are hard to figure......Tribute at $100 is a markup over it's release. But Siete Leguas Anejo for $21.99 is cheap. Normally runs $40 when I've seen it elsewhere.Randy
funknik
Today I went down to Julio's and picked up my case of Bourbon Crusade OWA and, strangely, was not tempted to pick up anything else. I did however get a couple of Old Label Weller Antiques that Kevin was kind enough to pick up for me . . . yeah, I have had a good couple of weeks. . .

WsmataU
Well, I finally made it to a liquor store over in MD that a friend had recommended. The pricing was pretty standard retail pricing, but the selection was special:JRPSAll the 2009 BTAC except WLW that I've been looking for.Lots of MichtersPappy 20 (but no 15).So I grabbed two JRPS (Batch 4) and left before I got carried away! fishnbowljoe
Vosgar made a trip into Binny's Saturday and picked up four bottles of Binny's Weller 12 for me. Took delivery last night. Only a pour or two left in a regular Weller 12, and I'll probably be opening one. Maybe tonight? :slappin: You never know. ErichPryde
an awesome Michigan member shipped me some ETL 90th birthday. I opened it up tonight, and find it more robust than the last bottle of ETL I had. The rye pepper-fizzes on the palate for a while, and there's an unsweetened chocolate touch to it. delicious stuff!
