Oh, how the poker group whacked the ERSB that I brought to the Game of the Year. Luckily my flask of WT CGFL was handy. I know we all moan over the departed ER 101. But, I'll take the new ERSB any day of the week......even Head-to-Head with the 101.

I did have mostly rye yesterday with Overholt 1981 before dinner and Handy 2008, Rittenhouse 10 BIB and WTRB after. Handy defiantly tasted superiorly best that evening.

Last time I had that Handy and Rittenhouse on the same day I did like the BIB better. Maybe it is due to the inexact watering of Handy and/or the shape and mode of the day.

It's been about a month since I had my old faithful...ERSB. Last bottle I had was from 2006 as was substantually darker then the Binny's bottle that I opened last night. I would give the nod in flavor to the 2006 bottle over the Binny's selection...luckly I have 2 more of the 06's in the bunker! It's amazing that they are even a good amount darker then the ER17 that they sit next to.

A little Rare Breed. The wife had to work today so I'm waiting for her to come home before we head out to my folks for Thanksgiving.

I am enjoying a Four Roses Hot Toddy using Four Roses Single Barrel. It is perfect for a cool, damp afternoon.

Rare Breed, of course! Roasting my first turkey, breast down. We'll see how that turns out....

Planning on a skosh of 4R Marriage and Pappy 15 to finish the eve....

Hope that bird turns out alright or I might have to visit Mr. Stagg!!!

Came down with a monster of a head cold yesterday. I'm treating it with some WLW and GTS, both 2008. If I'm going down, I'm going down fighting.

Spending the weekend with my family at the Kalahari Resort. I brought a liter of WT 8 and some '08 Saz 18 and I thing that both will receive heavy damage over the next few days.

We started with the WT8 and it is greatjuice. I really need to find a consistent source for this stuff.

For some reason I was in the mood for a 'clash' between A.H. Hirsch Reserve and Saz 18 Rye (bottled in Fall 2001).

Hirsch Reserve is a good whiskey but the Sazerac is simply awesome. Glad that I was able to restrain myself over the years - my bottle is still half full/half empty (depending on how you see it...).

Happy Thanksgiving from overseas!

Thanks, Ekki. Sounds like you had a nice day with some great rye!

I finally cracked open one og the 2008 GTS. Nice flavor neat, and amazingly little burn. I like it!

Yeah that '08 is very good and like you say amazingly little burn, unlike the '09.

I tried a little of the Weller Special Reserve I picked up today. VERY good bourbon! I get butter rum in the nose big time, even after it sits out for a while the butter rum scent is persistent. The mouthfeel is very smooth with surprisingly not a lot of alcohol burn for a 90 proofer. I've had some 80 proof whiskey that burns twice as much as this one. There's a bit of a sweetness in the taste that I cant put my finger on yet, some sort of baked dessert maybe? Finish is silky smooth and lasts moderately long, more of that sweetness that I cant yet describe. I let the glass sit out for a while when I was done and its got a very strong, but not unpleasant, leather/tobacco scent. Interesting. All in all I think its a winner. It was $17 plus tax for a liter at Liquor City. I think I may have found my new favorite bourbon!

Weller 12 before dinner and vintage 21 rye with the coffee, and JDSS with the gooseberry/ blueberry/ raspberry and apple pie for desert. The Weller tasted good but still the after dinner brands were superior.

After coming home from the Thanksgiving hunt with a boxful of bourbon, for some reason i've turned to shooting OGDBIB with some beer this evening. Sometimes you just want to drink....quick.

Enjoying some Wild Turkey KY Spirit and American Spirit for the first time this holiday season. Considering I am not a WT fan, I was going on hope that I would enjoy these, and without question I was not dissappointed.

Really enjoying some OWA107. I don't like the new bottle, but I think this year is better than last.

Anyone else have them side by side?

Tonite I remembered that I still have a 'Christmas labeled' bottle of WT Rye. Great, especially when you give it some time to 'breathe'. Very well balanced with a very pleasant sweetness. Nice drink.

Besides it's comforting to know that there is always some great whiskey/rye available <30 Euros. ;)
