Last night I lead out with WT12 and followed up with WTRR101. I haven't been imbibing an awful lot lately and the 1-2 combo hit the spot perfectly while I fixed the damned dishwasher :)

Just back from a road trip and enjoying a double FR1B. Big snow here but great to be home with a warming pour.

Cheers!

P.S. No bourbon or whiskey/whisky of any kind pairs well with Samuel Adams Boston Lager. Yuck.

I've jumped into the Reid and Emerald Willett.

Is it just me or is this stuff less like a drink and more like a meal....:skep:

Thick and nutty..... (much like myself... )

Tonight I started with Saz 18 2009 and now some RVWFR Rye. Somewhat similar. The winkle has more rye bite and a fuller flavor. Love this stuff!!!

Bowling night tonight. Tried a JB and coke, couldn't finish it. :puke: Made do with a couple of beers till we finished. Thanks to Vosgar we had some OF Repeal, and 99 EWSB. I also brought along some 08 FR Mariage'. So the night wasn't a total waste. That is, except for my bowling. :shithappens: Joe

Getting blasted with bad weather tonite in W TN....abnormally warm for January which leads to nothing but trouble....severe t-storms, lightning, isolated tornados, etc. Anyhow, good way to forget about it and not worry is a good pour of ER10/90. For some odd reason, this kind of weather always points me to ER this time of year.

I still have not opened a new bottle of anything this year.

BTW, that might make a good thread title, "What Bourbon Did You Open First In 2010"

So I'm back on the Van Winkle Lot B, neat.

I think I'll survive.

Starting the evening with a comparison of GTS09 vs GTS08, both neat.

GTS09:

Smells like Fisher's Popcorn and Caramel Apples. I feel like I'm walking down an ocean side boardwalk. Sticking the nose deeper in the glass reveals some leather and just a hint of spice. Is that walnuts I smell? It must be some stray peanuts in the Fisher's Popcorn.

The taste is very dry and nutty.

The finish is too long to sit here and type out. Starts out very warm, but as it lingers, it just gets sweeter, and sweeter and sweeter. The wood seems to really poke it's head out after the warmth subsides. I know it's oak, but citrus tree's come to mind when the wood hits.

On to the GTS08:

The smell on this one is a bit spicier. It's like a good sausage gravy. A little sweet, and a little peppery. After sitting in the glass for a bit, the maple trees make their presence. Did they flavor this stuff with Log Cabin?

The taste on this one is not quite as dry, and a lot sweeter than the 09. It really does taste like there's some Log Cabin or Aunt Jemima in there.

The finish has much more wood and maple or brown sugar than the 09. It is still VERY long and drawn out. A few minutes after tasting has still left a very enjoyable woodsy flavor in my mouth. "Why are you licking your lips" she asks me. "Because it's hard to lick your own tongue" I reply.

Tasting Stagg's days apart, they all taste pretty similar. But put them next to each other, and they really do show how much flavor is in each one. To sum it up....It puts the tongue in a different world.

This is only my second or third time posting a comparison with notes. Any comments, positive or negative, would be appreciated.

Same here but getting antsy. Working on 5 bottles, all close to the end.

Starting with a half-loaded bottle of Ritt BIB to alleviate the foul mood :hot: After that is gone, maybe there will be time and consciousness for more.....I'm in the mood to knock out several near-empties tonite....RHF, AAA, ER10 to name a few:shocked:
