WTR before dinner and Handy 2009 after. This Turkey groves on me, as an aperitif/early on the day brand, due to its crisp stile and for Turkey lightness.

Nothing exceptional...my girlfriend imposed a strict $50 limit on my most recent visit to the liquor store. Ended up with and OGD114 and a WT101. Loving the 114 right now and will enjoy the WT later.

Girlfriend?

Man you need a new girlfriend or even better no girlfriend!

Girlfriend telling you how to spend your money is a very bad sign.

Just had some '09 OFBB and loved every bit of it. I know a lot of you dislike it an awful lot (I seem to remember dirty diapers being mentioned), but give it another chance.

Digging deep into bygone distilleries: a 70's Benchmark from the old Seagram's Louisville plant, 1977 Yellowstone BIB, and finally one of the '69 Old Crow chess pieces.

Should've started with the Yellowstone, but I have no real complaint about the flight. Why can't I find those buttery, caramel, toffee and rum flavors in today's bourbons?

Same here, 4R1B Binny's #3, neat.

Opened my last bottle of this tonight and enjoying it immensely. This was preceded by a Japanese export 8 year WT 101.

I was just looking at the 2 bottles I have left in the cabinet, pondering who had a birthday coming up so I could open one. To date, the '09 is the only one I've tried. I have a bottle from '08 in the cabinet, which I've heard is very good from some reliable people. I think I'm going to hold onto it for a while. I like watching the bottles with dates on them get older.

Finishing the evening with some OGD114, then Pappy 20, and now the last of a bottle of Old Charter 8yr. The OC8 was purchased at a store in Delaware and was pretty dusty. It had a red tax stamp on it that was pretty well worn off, and the label is quite ragged. For $14/750ml, I was quite surprised at how good this one was. Quite different from anything I've ever had to tell you the truth. I'm glad there's another.

Some Early Times with a date of '87 tonight. Really not all that great. Now onto some 101 month black beam sour mash from the mid 70's. Smells amazing. Almost like a wheater. Guess it's that high corn recipe they use. Lots of viscocity. Wow. Loads of flavor on the pallate . Damn, I wish they still made juice like this. It is on the level with sw. Thank You Tommy. I gotta say....this may be one of the best bourbons I've ever had. The Very Very Old Fitz is still above this, but not by much. Very happy with this pour.

I hear ya but she's pretty cool in most ways and I admittedly can get a little loose with the wallet. While she was a bit heavy-handed, I know she has my best interests at heart.

You heard the one about the guy who sent his wife for a carton of cigarettes. She came back with some loose tobacco and rolling papers. Too save money. So she sent him to the store for Tampons he came back with a roll of string and a box of cotton.

Exactly. Hey, we've all been there, but you should at least have to wait until you're married to have to put up with that. :D

Well...at that point (if it ever gets to that point), she would not only be on my case about what I bought while out and about with her, but over any purchase that found its way into the house!

At least now, I do a good share of by-myself shopping, both bricks and mortar and online, of which she remains blissfully unaware.

I did have WTR before dinner yesterday and handy 2009 and ORVW 15 after. The later was consumed with a soft hazelnut cake.

I've been married for 36+ years so I'm starting to get used to the program.

Last night- Rittenhouse Rye BIB (Soooo nice!)

Bourbon-buying governor: I got what may be the worst of both worlds. My wife caps my spending AND she drinks about half of what I do get :skep:.

Hide the bottles!

That's not a good story. I feel for you man. The only thing my wife drinks is the Buffalo Trace Cream Liquor so next trip I have to really stock up. I only bought 3 at the end of Sept and she just cracked the last one on Saturday.

If the wife and the guests all were into my stash I'd only keep the locally available bottles on the counter.

Protip: If your brother in law says he really likes GTS after his first pour halfway through a session, hide the bottle before he starts to loose motor control.

2/1 is a rather bad anniversay of sorts for me.......so, I normally hit it pretty hard around the first week of Feb each year. As the words resound in The Eagles "Hotel California": "some dance to remember, some dance to forget".....well, in my case, I substitute "drink" for "dance". Or maybe it is "drink" in the actual words of the tune. Hell, I can't remember now for sure nor does it matter.

Anyhow, without further ado and no addt'l useless digression.....the lineup for the evening - in no particular order:

ER10/90

Rittenhouse BIB

VWFRR

WTKS

4RSB

WLW 06
