Old Lamplighter
Since Hell froze over last night in New Orleans as well as everywhere else that found Saints' fans such as myself toasting the victors (sorry Joe...rest of my family was for Colts and I am huge Peyton fan as well:bowdown: ), the celebration continues into this snowy evening with ER10/90, WTKS and 4RSB. I might even crack open a new Pappy to celebrate to the utmost!

Joshua
A little Weller SR, I thought I had "one pour" left... well it was more like 3. Had one of those a few days ago, one tonight... and if I don't kill the bottle off some Pappy 15.
CorvallisCracker
Finally got around to opening a EWSB2000.The color is pretty dark. I was surprised at how dark it was for a lighter, 86 proof whiskey.Smells much sweeter and woodsier than I remember previous bottlings to be. In a good way. It tastes almost exactly as it smells, with addition to some good sweet corn. DelMarVa sweet corn at that. The finish is long and sweet. I can still taste some good sweet corn after a sip minutes ago.I will be returning to the store and picking up more of these. I haven't seen too many around, but I would imagine most stores are just receiving theirs as it was bottled only a few months ago.I have a 1999 in the bunker, and another 2000. I'll do a side by side at some point. It will be in the very near future if I can find another 1999 laying around. One of the few bourbons under 100 proof that I really like. It's also relatively inexpensive. If you can find one on the shelf, definitely pick it up.
cigarnv
1978 WT 7yo 86.6.... gifted by Greg G.... great pour... sweet, spice and a soft, silky mouth feel. Great complexity and finish.... just far to easy to drink...

nor02lei
I did have a side by side of handy 2008 and 2009 before dinner tonight. The 2008 did seem slightly better. A bit spicier and livelier in general, while the 2009 were chewer but a bit restrained. This may be partly due to the fact that it was the last out of the 08 bottle and the 09 was close to the top. After dinner I had ORVWFRR K and Fitzgerald 1849 1973 with the cardamom cake for dessert. The nose of the van winkle was outstanding, but it did seem to lack a bit of proof after the 2 Handys.Leif
jburlowski
Fired up the snowblower (brought it here from MN and the locals laughed...) and cleared the neighbors' driveways. Followed by some winter trash talk and most of a bottle of Bookers.

smokinjoe
About an hour ago, Cheesy Gold Foil Wild Turkey 12 yr, to start. I'm now nosing the empty Reidel, which I could smell from 10 feet away, when I reentered the room that I sipped it. A fantabulous aroma. :yum: It's so powerful, I believe that I could leave it for a year, and it would still be detectable. I'm going to leave it be, and use a different glass for my next pour of something else...That is some kinda awesome whiskey.
hectic1
Four Roses Small Batch... I've got one of my buddies trying bourbon tonight...I'm pulling out all the stops and giving him my gateway bourbon...Binny's Weller 12!
Josh
I'm glad you asked. The one I opened last night is #90. The one in the bunker is #221. The #90 is a bit darker than the #221, and since you asked, I now know why.The #90 was barreled on 1/10/2000 and bottled on 10/30/2009. That's 9 years 10 months in the barrel. The #221 was barreled on 9/30/2000 and bottled on 12/14/2009. That's just over 9 years in the barrel. Evidently the extra few months made a difference. I might put this one back in the bunker to await a drink off between the two. You know, I should really pay more attention to things like this. Realizing that certain bottles are better than others just by looking at the package, and holding it up to the light. That #90 I have is awfully close to being 1999.... And some people accuse us of being pedantic on this website! Anyway, been enjoying the snow and some EWSB 97 and some Schadenfreude at the expense of my neighbors who just got a ticket for parking on the street during a snow emergency. Did I mention they sneer at us whenever they see us and are our #1 suspects for reporting our wildflowers to the city inspector? Anyway, I love this '97. The best HH product I've ever had. And yes, I've had both Parker's.
ggilbertva
I worked from home yesterday so enjoyed a late afternoon pour of an '82 Cabin Still 86pf and then after dinner nursed a '74 Old Fitz Prime 86pf. It was a wheater kind of day.

SMOWK
Blizzard conditions are a call for starting early. So I shall. Beginning with some Old Ezra 101. The more I drink this stuff the more I like it. It's got a very strong citrus aroma to it. Although, I ate an orange a while ago...

SMOWK
I've since moved onto a blind taste test of VWFRR, PVW15, LotB, EWSB2000.Rated as expected I thought. In order from best to "worst". PVW15, VWFRR, LotB, EWSB2000.I somehow had the LotB and EWSB2000 backwards when I tried to guess what they were. I was drinking the EWSB2000 the other night and it was fantastic. So much so that I thought "it couldn't be 'worst'". The rule of thumb (in my book) stands. The bottom shelf of VW is better than the top shelf of many other brands. Now I've moved onto ETL. Pretty good. I feel like drinking tonight, with all the snow and all, so I'm going to stay away from the barrel proof'ers.I would really like to get a few bottles of that Willett from the "New Whiskey Site". PM me if you are thinking the same. They won't ship this a way.

I don't have any of that - the only ORVW I've found here in OR is the 10/107.I guess I could add a little Brita-filtered water. Lessee, where's that dilution calculator? smokinjoe
Luckily, we don't have all the snow that ya'll been dealin' with. But, it's daggone cold in these parts!
