It's been a low price/high value night for me...HH BiB 6 y/o, white label and Dickel #8. I love these whiskeys and if all the barrel proofers and >10 y/o whiskeys disappeared tomorrow, I'd be pissed, but these two would help me get through.

I wanted to throw something young, as well as different (hence the rye), into the mix. Just to make sure I could pick it out. I'm new to tastings, I have my girlfriend set them up for me.

Right now I'm trying the EWSB 2000 against ORVW 10/107, the latter diluted to 87 proof.

I have no trouble tellling them apart, partly because the EWSB (at least BBL 16) is so intense. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if they messed up on the proofing. If I tasted this blind I'd be sure it's at least 100 proof. I know where I can get a spirit hydrometer and I think I'm going to test it.

Diluted to 87 proof, the ORVW is very mild. Perhaps I should have done the comparison with the ORVW at full strength.

They are very different, and I really can't say I prefer one over the other, eclectic guy that I am.

Early Times circa 1982. This is just a fun as hell bourbon. Lots of butter and cream at 80 proof. I wish I had a handle or two.

Bowling night. Had my usual Jack and coke, but Gary and I brought some goodies for afterward. Gary brought a sample of Booker's, and I brought a flask of Ezra B 12 yr old. (a gift from a fellow SB member) A good time was had by all. Been a long time since I had some Ezra B. It was a lot better than I remember. :yum: All of us liked it. A lot! Joe

Old Charter Proprietor's Reserve Single Barrel, I forgot how much I liked the 12 and 13 year old Charters and how good this Single Barrel was. Almost a little sweet for me, but all in all damn fine bourbon.

I've been trying to get one from my local LCB for a while now. They tell me it's on the way, but I've yet to see anything. If anyone in Maryland spots a bottle, be sure to let me know.

I agree. This ET KSBW is one that surprised me the first time I tried it. I remember just buying a little 200ml, tried it and went back for the other dozen 200's and the two handles. The handles I have are dated '79 and are dark and inviting. No doubt terrific.

Old fashioned with Old Fitz BIB (DSP KY 1). I like the current expression quite a bit, but I really wish it were SW juice. Of course I wouldn't be making cocktails with it then!

After a very long day, '88 Old Forester BIB and a Dunhill. It was worth sitting in my cold garage (no smokin in the house).

The journey tonight started with cracking open a Binny's Weller 12. Tasted a little off (sorry Joe) but I'll chalk it up to palate fatigue from dinner. Went over to a 101 Russell's Reserve and the vanilla and spice just kicked my butt-I need to find me more of these. Then some Pappy's 15, simply delicious. The JPS 17 that followed was as delicious, in a slightly more lighter, elegant and refined manner (or is it just the 6.5% abv difference). Back to the Weller 12 for the finale, now it's doing its thing, and all is right with the world tonight.

I found and older 1.75 OGDBIB that has the curvy sides and orange cap. I soaked it and got the labels off. It shall now forever be my OGDBIB decanter. That has got to be the most comfortable bottle to pour from.

Oh, and that's what I'm drinking right now. Alongside a DogFishHead 120 minute IPA. I must say, the beer is damn near as strong as the whiskey.

Watching an absolutely beautiful couple of inches snowfall here in Dixie with a Rock Hill Farms to start, and followed by The Fox. My daughter's sheltie is totally diggin' the snow. Can't get her to come in.

Sounds beautiful!

All my snow has been shoveled into neat or not so neat little piles. But I do have a white cat on my lap and I just finished a little bit of slope-shoulder OCPR. The first time I tried this I was not impressed, too woody. But I'm growing to love this. I may need to have an Old Charter tasting soon.

Anyway, I'm moving on to an old favorite, 4R Single Barrel. This must be one of the lower rye barrels. Very sweet, loads of vanilla in the finish.

We don't get much snow down here, so any snow is cool. This is a wet, heavy snow (it's right at 32-33 degrees), and it's clinging to every leaf, stick, and branch. It actually looks like more than we have. It truly is beautiful. And, so is this Ezra B 15 yr. My "Butterscotch Bomb". :yum: Speaking of which, if I'm not bombed by 8:00, it'll be something...:D BTW Josh, the OCPR SS's are a personal fave of mine, but I've found that sometimes they can use a good airing out.

Currently enjoying a bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel 2000 Vintage [3-30-00: Barrel # 153]

Really enjoying it. This barrel is a more smokey and fiery version of the regualr Evan Williams IMO.
