Last night had some:

-OGD 114 on the rocks while grilling

-OWA NAS on the rocks while grilling

-Four Roses OESO Barrel Strength, neat (thanks to a very generous SB member)

-Parker's Heritage Golden Anniversary, neat (thanks to a very generous SB member)

-Four Roses Mariage 2009

All very good, but the OESO really hit the spot.

Decided to taste some Heaven Hill juice tonight. Started with some Old Taylor. Next up was EWSB2000. Last pour was Elijah Craig18. Nice progression of flavors as the age increased. Damn, the 18 is good stuff!

On Sunday I had WLW 2007, Handy 2009 ad the last out of my last OGD 114. This WLW does differ a lot from the rest I think, as it is very light bodied and has nothing of the sweet chewy stile of the 06, 08 or 09. As I did learn from Steve (sailor22) on the Houston trip 2 weeks ago that you should not be afraid to put in water in a brand even if the proof suggest it to be drunk neat I did try that. It did actually improve as the flavours opened up and the alcohol push disappeared. Still none of my favourite WLW though.

Yesterday I had the current ORVW 10/107 and a bottle from 2002. Very big difference stile wise with the older bottle being very fiery and pungent and the current very smooth and drier. Maybe I have a side by side some other day.

That JTS Brown BIB is excellent, it was on Randy's table at the recent Houston fete and I was surprised how good it was. A definite purchase the next time I'm in KY. (I recall Chuck C always liked this and I could see why).

After a vatting of Jack Daniels Black, JDSB and Gentleman Jack (silky and superb), I had something I rarely drink - wine. I like wine, but I am so inured to beer as an alternative to whiskey that I rarely drink it. Usually it is when we're out for dinner, as e.g., the other night with friends and we had a Bogle Petit Syrah that impressed a lot.

Anyway now I didn't feel like beer so it's BestHeim Pinot Blanc, an Alsatian wine, 2008 vintage. A perfect session wine with round, well-tempered, true flavours. I must get more of this.

What else but Weller 12. Alternating between a regular bottling and Binny's. Both good. :yum: Cheers from the Weller whore of SB. :slappin: Joe

An Ancient Age BIB over cracked ice. Just magnificent. But, I haven't seen it in Kentucky on my last couple of trips, and I think I read BT may have discontinued it? I hope not. I also hope that I fall into a pile of it next trip through KY. I still think this is the best of the AA/AAA line...AAA 10 yr included.

A big righteous pour of GTStagg '08.

In-Laws have been here since yesterday, I might be posting in the "empty bottle support group" thread shortly.

Just another typical day Down South. Hot...Humid...Thunderstorm...

Enjoying the fireworks with a nice and neat pour of Ezra B 15yr. Ahhhhh...the butterscotch in this is tasty. I may need to pour one for my daughter's sheltie. The thunder has her a bit....spazzed...:D

A nice fat snifter of BT. The recent thread regarding its mustiness, which I've never encountered or just don't find objectionable and only sense it as part of its flavor profile, got me hankering for a pour.

The other night we had Margaritas made with Hurradura Reposado. I made fajitas by grilling thin strips of sirloin over very hot wood coals. Once the coals tamed down a bit I grilled the peppers...............probably the best fajitas I've ever made but I sure wish I would have had some El Tosoro Blanco for the Margaritas. Janean prefers the Hurradura repo but I like the big agave hit you get from the El Tosoro.

Did some grocery shopping today and while I was out got to taste an Eagle Rare single barrel chosen by AJ's grocery store here in Tucson. It wasn't mind-blowing, but was definitely the best ERSB I've had in a while. The floral notes that sometimes overwhelm ER were almost completely absent, allowing it to be sweet, somewhat leathery, and smooth. It reminded me a bit of ER17- It was perhaps a bit less sweet than the 2008 and perhaps a bit more smooth and a bit less interesting.

WTRR 10/101

I was going to watch the last few innings of the Tribe/Tigers game but it's over already. A 9 inning game played in 1:44? Sheez

From what I've been hearing, the game should have been even shorter....

I'll join you in a WTRR 10/101 to bemoan the Imperfect Game...

Finished off the last of an 09 stagg, and then had a pour of Weller 12. This bottle of weller 12 has been open since mid january, and it's gotten better in that time. Not the most complex pour I've ever had, but it's enjoyable and easy to drink.

I did have dickel barrel select and 12 before outdoor grilling yesterday. 12 tasted much better. Later I had JDSS with the grilled bananas with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate souse for dessert. A very good paring indeed. Then late at night the last out of my WRMCSO after watching a local band called sky high that actually have been on tour in USA a couple of times at a nightclub nearby.

Side by side of current and 2002 ORVW 10/107 before dinner and WTRR 101 after. I found the older VW to be much better than the current.

Was just going to be one, but turned into a couple pours, of Four Roses 120th Anniversary. I have to say, that this is my favorite of the Four Roses Barrel Strengths that I've sampled. It's not the time of year for it, but I wish I had some pumpkin pie to go with this tonight. I think they would go together wonderfully. :yum:
