winding the night down with a pour of R&E willett. I should have been in bed already, but I can't sleep.

Enjoying a nice pour of a 6 year old Willett bottled last year for the DC market.

This was a Christmas gift from my wonderful wife, and I'm excited that I've finally figured out that a litte ice opens this bourbon up to be much more interesting and complex than I had thought it was when I was drinking it neat or even with a little water. I'm thinking another pour and a cigar will make for a nice end to the day.

A friend wanted me to host a tasting for him so who am I to decline? Since these were newbies to bourbon for the most part, I did the full spectrum

Straight Corn Whiskey 100pf

Baby Saz

OC 12

WT 8yr 101

OWA

Bernheim Wheated Whiskey

Old Fitz BIB

EWSB 2000

Afterwards we had little WLW, Stagg and Handy dessert.

I was alone home last night and had a real food and drink orgy. Rendezvous rye and VWFRR-K before a heavy 2-course dinner with micro beer and red wine. Than at 9.30 pm I got a urgent need for dessert and started from scratch with frozen red, current and an cold oven to make pie. I made it with butter, porridge oats, and 2 different syrups and it taste so dammed good that I had 1/3 of it with about 1litre vanilla ice crème and 20 cl JDSS. I love pie made from sour fruit, but I don’t care for ditto made from sweet fruit like blue berries for example. Than later a little more micro beer and a pour of mellow corn BIB. All this at the same time that I was watching a AZDC concert from 1996 and easy rider on television.

You got that right. But, I gained 5 pounds just reading about it! :D

A back and forth with Old Forester BIB "dimpled bottle" and Pappy 15 for me, last night.

And, 5 homemade tacos....

Angus and Malcolm were rocking the guitar but you were rockin' dessert, Leif!

Filled the Jim Beam oversize tumbler with ice, poured a generous shot of Four Roses Yellow Label, added some water and three dashes Angostura. A refreshing, very tasty highball.

In honor of the current Bourbonian's arrival in Indy, I cracked open a Bonded Beam from 1968. What a shame what has become of Beam. This stuff was creamy and oily with a wonderful vanilla nose....

also on the table was....

2000 Weller 19 (wonderfully woody...)

PHC 127

VW Old Tyme rye

2002 Stagg (fantastic !!!!)

4 roses 40th

and a handfull of others.

Thanks to Jeff and Heather for the hospitality !!!

What did you think about the Stagg Scott? This is the only vintage of Stagg that I haven’t tasted.

Not that much whiskey lately. I had a pour of forester BIB 1984 yesterday. Today it’s the Swedish national day, but its not much celebrating. We are not much of a nationalistic people up here. However me and my lady partner Yvonne did meet this day 2 years ago. We did celebrate with a bottle of good champagnes and a 2-course dinner in a local Indian restaurant. Back home we had leftover red current pie with JDSS for dessert.

Now I am up by myself and having mallow corn BIB as a nightcap.

Still on my "2010 empty more bottles and buy fewer bottles quest".

So I opened up an old Old Welller Antique 7/107, not bad, better than some I've had.

I pulled out my '82 ER101. It was one of those nights where it was a fantastic drink.

Pulled out the seldom used Elijah Craig 18 and gave it a go. It seemed a lot drier and a touch astringent this time around. The oak tannins seemed to dominate. I hope its just me or else oxidation over time hasn't helped this bottle. I'll rest it some more and have another go later.

Cheers! :drink:
