A special night. My wife and I drove our son back to camp (he had to come home for 2 weeks of volleyball "camp" for high school) and, rather than stay overnight in Eagle River, WI, we drove right back. Here's a shot of my wife at the wheel passing some "slower" drivers.

Plus, one of my friends that usually spends the weekend at his Green Lake house had been up there all week and came home early.

This combination, along with a VERY warm night in the Chicago 'burbs=BOURBON. Had to break out the vanWinkle 23 AND use the crystal glasses that came with it. A great, memorable night, just shootin' the $hit and drinking.

MI Dogs were running yesterday, Tony AKA ACDetroit came out here to the country and we poured a few.

Old Fitz 101, '70's BHC

Old Commonwealth, '93 bottle

Jefferson's Reserve 15yo, the original ryed bourbon

Old Charter Louisville, 80prf (damn shame)

Old Charter Proprietor's Reserve, Frankfort

Four Roses Single Barrel Angel-Share, Trinity Bourbon Alliance

Four Roses Binny's OESO

Maker's 46

Wild Turkey Sherry Signature

and I saved the best for last,....

Wild Turkey 101 8 year old from a ceramic decantner of the '70's.

Tony had it in a WTKS pewter top bottle, this bird is so good that if you were told it was a WTKS pewter you would have no doubt.

I had some generously donated MM 46 last night.

The best thing I can say about it is "more for you guys"! I'm glad I got to try it again as I had some at the sampler.....after I had a pour of Bookers which wrecked my palette for the 46.

It does not have much of a finish which is huge for me in my tasting preferences. It hints at something good then it goes away quick. It's like a wispy promise of something better. Now if it was re barreled in a barrel made of the staves that were used for flavoring it would probably be a bit more interesting but I assume that would cost a fortune.

Any special WT decanters I should keep my eye out for?

Tony said it came from the "Turkey Lore" series.

The one I've had my eye on is the Turkey w/Eagle. Which is #1 of Series #4. Looks to have been made in 1984. I'll take that chart with me on my next trip.

ETL before dinner, WT Tradition after and Pappy 15 with the hazelnut cake for a late dessert. The Turkey seemed totally superior today and pappy was mostly “pale†as it seemed. Maybe I am in for a Turkey no wheat period?

I have turkey days myself, Leif.

I can't compete with those pours, but tonight, I'm pondering magic. How does a high corn mashbill become a dry, slightly woody, spicy wonder? I don't know but this OC "The Classic" is just that. The only answer can be black label magic. The man who decided to discontinue this beauty should be shot, or at least given a stern lecture.

Jefferson's Reserve 15yo, neat.

Bottle #1611 of 2400.

This ranks up there with Parker's Heritage Collection, I wonder why?;)

I'll go with being shot.

Loving the last half of the first bottle of 09WLW that has fallen into my hands. The lonely other sits on the shelf a while, soaking up the exaltation.
