smokinjoe
A neat pour of 1792. I love the nose on this bourbon. Floral and sweet, with a nice yeasty backbone. It all works together, just about perfectly.
Joshua
Wild Turkey Liquor. Found a really old bottle a while back for dirt cheap, not a bad after dinner pour actually. Just a bit of it wasn't too bad.
nor02lei
I had WTRR 101 before dinner and ORVW 10/107 2002 with hazelnut cake after yesterday. Both tasted real good. Leif
OscarV
It happened again this afternoon, we were out and I ordered a WT101 on the rocks at Jackson's finest resturant, she came back and said they don't carry WT and would I like a Southern Comfort instead. So I said no because I want a bourbon, then I ordered something that MI doesn't get just to bug 'em, WLW12yo.She came back and suggested Johnnie Walker. OK I thought, no need to play games with Yankee rednecks and I ordered a MM on the rocks. It came with a few floating chips of ice and lots of water,...I guess I'll never learn. smokinjoe
McScrooge's NAS OWA. An orangy/citrusy finishing tinge to it tonight. Very refreshing on a warm evening.

PaulO
I don't find too many unusual bottles to brag about. The other day some Elmer T. Lee 90th birthday appeared in one of my favorite stores. It's really nice. I'm not sure how different it is from the regular ETL. This whiskey has a nice thick mouth feel like cream, lots of flavor, no rough edges. I'll have to make it last. When it's gone, it's gone.

Josh
This afternoon I've been re-watching Made and Bottled in Kentucky, sipping on some Old Forester made around the time the documentary was made, and wondering where I can find a jacket like that green one Chuck was wearing while he was sitting and sipping with the UD suits. nor02lei
I did have quit a lot of whiskey yesterday. Beam 6 grains and Turkey tradition, RR 101 and 12 gold folio before dinner. The beam brand came out real short here for sure. The old time Turkey did come out slightly short among the turkeys as well. It had a complete different flavour profile. Much less wood tannins and collar and a honey/light fruit sweetness instead of a vanilla/heavy fruit sweetness from the other 2. After dinner I had WT 8 export with the plain chocolate /orange ice cream for dessert and OGD 114 as a nightcap. The last bottles of the 8 export I have had have been 1 litres and I haven’t been real satisfied but this 70cl bottle is real good indeed. WT 8 (export or old-timer) has been my favourite ice-cream bourbon for years.Leif

sailor22
I did have quit a lot of whiskey yesterdayFellow Bourbonistas - when Lief says he had "quite a lot" rest assured you couldn't match him drink for drink and live to tell about it. I watched that gentleman consume some serious quantity in Houston and never show any sign of inebriation. Very impressive.
rocky480
A little tasting of a newly opened OWA NAS against the last of the bottle with the age statement that I have open.
nor02lei
We had JDSS wile waiting for the charcoal to get white yesterday and than the same with the traditional grilled bananas with ice crème and chocolate souse for dessert. A nice thing was that a coupe of neighbours came out and joined us for the dessert and a glass of JD. Leif
Gillman
Leif, when you have beer with your dinners alongside the bourbon, do you ever drink Carnegie Porter? This is one of the great classic porters, very close to the 1800's British porter. A Scot named Carnegie went to Sweden to establish the brewery and recipe. I think it is a very fine porter. Do you ever see it on draft? Is it considered expensive by local standards? That would go well with the bananas and chocolate sauce I think.Gary

It was like comparing Stagg with white beam. I guess the micro beer movement has turned the hole beer thing around. It’s not an expensive beer in Sweden, but hard to find on tap.Leif
Gillman
Okay thanks for that Leif. I still think it is a good porter but it is true, the craft beer phenomenon has raised standards everywhere.Gary
OscarV
Yesterday;Wild Turkey Rye 12yo barrel proof, Brian of Cork 'N Bottle in Covington gave me a tasting, this was the darkest spirit I have ever saw, it's like Van Winkle Rye on steroids.Bulleit straight out of the 50ml bottle while bourbon shopping in KY.Old Fashioned made with Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit&Four Roses Single Barrell on the rocks&Pappy Van Winkle 20yo, neat. Before, during & after dinner at Bourbon Bistro with Veach and Shay two of Louisville's finest. Gillman
Sounds really interesting, the RR rye (6 years old) was good but I would think a 12 year old, especially barrel strength, would be superb. Interesting how gingerly they are approaching it, perhaps they just don't have the stocks for even a limited release.Gary

Josh
EW BIB. :yum: Gonna have to see if I can find this in KY when I come down for the KBF. JoeI have never seen it in Kentucky. But then I never saw an ORVW 15 in Kentucky either, but once this tall drink o' water who enjoys chewing on wheat kernels...never mind...Anyway, I had the Rat Guy and Rat Guy Jr. over today and found out that I do indeed have a nest of Norway Brown Rats in my crawlspace. First they and their fleas and their bacterium killed 50% of Europe's population, then they started making funny noises under my tub late at night.I'm worried the rats may develop a taste for good bourbon, so I'm trying to drink down some bottles tonight. I started off with Binny's Weller 12, continued with a Binny's OBSK, and now I'm thinking about what might be next. Party Source Willet 13 y/o silver wax perhaps? Maybe make it a Binny's night and go for the EC 18? What would a rat do?
