HP12
I've been reading this thread and recently got a bottle of the PHC 10 (2nd Dump). I have yet to crack it open. Sounds like a real gem. Seems to still be a few bottles available online but likely to go quick now that Whisky Mag has ranked it #1 American Whiskey. Thanks for the timely recon Chuck! Pirate762
There are a couple of stores here that have the PHC Wheated and the Golden Anniversary. If interested I may be able to help ya get one or more. Let me know.
BourbonCzar
Pirate - I would appreciate any guidance on getting another PHC Wheated. My first bottle is dwindling fast & I haven't seen one on the shelf since the fall.
cowdery
Has anyone ever compared the PHC Wheated Bourbon to the Very Special Old Fitz? As good as the PHC is, maybe the VSOF is something we all need to be grabbing. I know I'll be on the lookout.

Josh
Don't waste your time Chuck, except for PHC all of HH's wheated bourbons are bad.

As good as the PHC is, maybe the VSOF is something we all need to be grabbing. I know I'll be on the lookout. The bottle I have of the VSOF is actually pretty good. Subtle but good. The current VSOF does not seem to get distributed in the Chicagoland area. If it does I haven't seen it and I get around to a few stores now and then. I have come across a couple bottles of BHC VSOF and mid 2000 VSOF (if you believe bottle stamps) scattered about but none of more recent vintage. Maybe somebody from HH can tell us if it is. shyster512
The bottle of VSOF I purchased today is actually too subtle. Really needs a taste boost.
jburlowski
The VSOF has always been pretty readily available locally... doesn't seem to be disappearing from the shelves. My recollections: nice and servicable... but not memorable. In no way comparable to the PHC version.

tommyboy38
And it's cracked and pretty damn good. Seems a little lacking at first but it has a great long finish.

Haven't bought any more; was going to wait until I exhausted my stash of Weller 12.
jburlowski
I agree... I'd take Weller 12 (or for that matter, OWA) over VSOF, any day.

Haven't bought any more; was going to wait until I exhausted my stash of Weller 12.My feelings exactly Scott. Weller 12 is $28, while VSOF is $38 here in WA. One problem, it might be a while before I exhaust all my Weller 12.

Fortunately, a moderator whose name rhymes with Moe has offered to help me replenish my supply. This didn't surprise me, because even before that I had already concluded he's the SB.com'r I'd most like to hug¹.1. You know, in a manly way. Of course. hectic1
Back to the PHC 2010...has anyone done a side by side with the 127.8 and the 124.2? Preferences between the two bottles?
cowdery
The thing to think about is that the PHC wheater is really great and it's clearly whiskey distilled after Parker and Craig got Bernheim where they wanted it. Up to this point, the VSOF out there has been either SW (dwindling fast) or UDV Bernheim. Before too long it will be HH Bernheim and if the PHC wheater is any indication, damn fine whiskey. Something to watch for.

I hope they will use their considerable talents to produce a world-class wheated bourbon.BT needs a challenger! They've done it and PHC wheater is the proof. I'm talking about it migrating into more affordable and available products, presumably in the Old Fitzgerald line. They're clearly making fine whiskey now, they're not going to go backwards.Never forget that the Golden Years of Fitz Prime and Fitz BIB were the recently concluded glut years. That's what most of the pre-Bernheim Fitz was back to probably the 1970s. That's what most of us were enjoying until the first Bernheim juice came on line.I'm not saying Fitz Prime and Fitz BIB today taste like they did in the 1970s and before, but I bet the maturation profile is more similar than it is to the glut years.
