Passed up a Distillers Masterpiece 18 year old cognac finished. They were asking $250. Probably not an unreasonable price based on its scarcity, but didn't want to drop that kind of coin today.

I really like this bottling... not worth the money, but a good unique pour...

Jwilly019, old lamplighter is looking for some of the Ritt 21's. Where did you see them?

I found them in MI, I'll send him a PM. And please, call me Justin.

I think I passed on the same bottle this earlier this week, when I was on the east side. Also passed on a Rittenhouse 23, different store though.

Templeton Rye. It seems to be everywhere in northern IL. Had it once and once was enough for the time being.

Binny's had a sign, "limit one case per customer", at another place it was $40.99.

it's ok, but it's nothing to write home about either.

I just do not get it??

Passed on an eagle rare 17 that was marked $200!!!!

I did score a Van winkle rye, and 10 yr 90 proof at the same store ad they had held for me. They found a PVW 23 and wanted to gouge me $300 for it - i talked then down to 260 which is not terrible. Going rate round here is 250

Going to have to eat a little crow on this one. When opening gifts this morning, my sister handed me a wrapped bottle, the shape was very distinctive as I grabbed it from her. A little bit latter when opened, my thoughts were confirmed.

I'll still enjoy it though.

Not too far from home, I stared for 15 min at a shelf that held:

5 Pappy 20's

a dozen Lot B's

tons of ORVW 10, both proofs

2 Saz 18

3 WRW

and plenty of the rest of BTAC

What did I buy? Fighting Cock.

What can I say, I'm broke.

I'm with you there...my own fault though...wife says I gotta stay out of the stores til 2014 but I am subbing a "/" for the "0" and shooting for 2/14...2012 that is. Even that is gonna be very difficult though...lol

Passed on a PVW 20 year, they wanted $150, $40 over state minimum. Tried to talk them down but then they tried to tell me $150 was minimum, not cool.

That barrel strength Abraham Bowman Rye from The Party Source keeps tempting me but still can't pull the trigger. It's a constant, daily battle.

Plenty of Jefferson 18 around (regular and private bottling) for $79.99+tax but still haven't made the plunge based on the somewhat mixed reviews. With so little SW juice left, there's a case to be made for buying it regardless.

There's one last dusty 1.5L Weller Antique 107 (old label) lingering at a local hole-in-the wall store that keeps haunting me. What am I waiting for?

Already bought some George T. Stagg this season but passed up another for $65. A foolish move.

Passed on a bunch of the Pappy 23 for $260+tax. The 15 was $75 (tax included) and 20 was $100 so those were the more appealing options. Between budget constraints and the reviews of the 23 as being weak and over-oaked, I skipped out.

Saw the 2011 PHC with the cognac finish for $80 and passed. Until I can finally taste the 2010 wheated batch, I'll keep the powder dry.

If I didnt know better, I would have thought I posted this one...lol. I am with you on everything but the Bowman. I did manage to snag one more yesterday before all gone at TPS. Also, not more than 8-10 JPS near & around me...I just can't seem to pull the trigger on that one. TPS has a good inventory though and price is a lot better than >$100 in the locals. That PVW 23 is getting higher by the week around me. They sure are proud of it. Guess I cant blame them though as it is about the only ones left except for an excess of Lot B...nobody seems to want that one...yet.

A store I frequent had a few Van Winkles on the shelf. I had never seen any in this store before. It looks like they might be staring at me for a while:

89.99 - ORVW 10/107

149.99 - LOT B

299.99 - PVW20

Yowza

Two 4R's SB LE's 2011. Kicking myself now because I assumed I could get it at a local store and they are now out. And a Ritt 25.

No need to fret over this one anymore, it's sold out.

Was out doing a little grocery shopping with the wife. Of course I had to stop in the liquor department at Woodman's. I passed on everything. But seriously, I passed on handles of AAA, Rebel Yell, and of all things, Dickel 12. I'd never seen Dickel 12 in handles before. I also passed on the Asombroso tequila that Chuck posted about in Off Topic. That bottle is scary up close.

I did come close to buying a bottle of Blanton's, because they only get a bottle or two ever so often. It was hard to walk away from that one. Especially for under $50.

Was tempted to pull the trigger on some '11 WLW at $79.99 but opted to pass. This time.

Same here plus new THH. Both seem to be aplenty in my neck of the woods so it will wait...my wallet & wife both breathed a sigh of relief.

Saw PVW 20 in a couple of places for well over $300. At that price, they can keep them.

  • 2 weeks later...

I passed on a PHC 10 at $149.95. I also noticed that every other bourbon seemed to be at the actual state minimum price.

After studying the shelves a bit, I asked if that was the correct price. The immediate reply is we price from the state book and that's the price. I asked would you mind verifying that? After verifying the correct price with the clerk, I made a purchase for $79.95.

Passed on a 4/5 quart of IW Harper Bottled in Bond, probably from the 70's. It was, as you might expect, behind bulletproof glass, so it was hard to see. The other thing I noted was made in Louisville, for whatever that's worth.

It's a dusty that hardly ever gets talked about on this board, which is probably part of why I passed for now.

Anyone had some lately care to give some counsel?

I only have experience with IW Harper 80 proof from the late 80's. I won't purchase it again. That may be different though for the BIB version.
