"Tasting" was probably the better word for it. Binny's World of Whiskies style. Stuck to those that I don't own/haven't had before for the most part, except for the Birthday. :falling:

This evening I am sampling a pour of Angel's Envy and it's going down smooth. Lincoln Henderson did good with this port finish as it is different. I may stay with that or switch to Blanton's for a nightcap.

Cool evening this time of year, thought I'd open a WT Rye. Compliments the Budweiser and Beenie Weenie nicely. I had a Weller 107 also to keep this post in the "Bourbon" section.

Sipping on some EC-18.Needed something to warm me up.It was 25 degrees when I came home from work tonight.

I almost opened a barrel proof bottle but I was in the mood for an older bourbon.

BHC Weller Centennial Louisville i found earlier today....I'm officially back on the bourbon wagon after this find. deep, rich, floral, caramel, cherry, wee touch of leather, slight vanilla mixed with just enough wood.

That is definitely a lost wonder of the bourbon world, congrats on finding that one!

I had a little Party Source Willett earlier and now some Colonel Taylor.

It's growing on me, there is some buttery creaminess in the nose that is reminiscent of the ND OT, but the pallatte really screams typical Buffalo Trace distillate to me, ie Hancocks crossed with ETL. Still good, but not really worth the price IMHO.

Rough, long days at work, aching for a good pour...come home feeling a deep craving for Weller Centennial. The next night it's Blanton's Single Barrel. And the next night again.

I'd been branching out trying a lot of new pours but it's good to come back to the old favorites.

By the way, my wife kept asking me the difference between bourbon and scotch. So last night I poured her a glass of Blanton's and a glass of Laphroaig (both neat) and without any explaining just told her to try both. Now she understands...probably did the world of scotch a disservice though.:70358-devil: :70358-devil:

Last night I had a couple pours for the first time in a week or so...amazing how good stuff tastes when you're away for a bit...I had a pour of 1978 Ezra Brooks "real sippin' whiskey". This stuff was much more then I expected it to be...it had great mouth feel...that thick viscous texture that you don't get in today's bourbon. The nose had molassis and maple syrup that just engulfed the glass...on the palet with showed a little wood and sweetness followed by a little dryness on the back end. I would definitely say the best attribute about this was the nose...I would have been content to just pull sniffs all night from the glass but then what kind of bourbon drinker would I be?

I followed that up with a pour of 1977 Ezra Brooks from a decanter that I had...they're both similar but the 1978 had a better nose while the 1977 had a dried fig thing that was nice in it's own right.

I finished the night with a 06 OFBB...this was my last pour of the night mostly because it too me abour 1.5 hours to get through the ounce or so that I poured of it. This is probably one of the most hit or miss bourbons that I have open. On some nights I can appreciate why people like this years bottling and on others I ask myself what are they thinking? Last night this pour was as astringent and industrial tasting as I can ever remember...

I really wish i would have just poured it out and got something different but I wanted to see if it would have gotten better with time in the glass...no luck.

I do feel the bitter aftertaste of guilt. But in my defense I didn't have any other scotch on hand.

I had my first taste of WLW tonight - the 117 proof...i think that's 2008? Very good neat, but a few drops of water brought down the burn and it tasted almost like candy to me. Will definitely be looking for more in the future!

Went to dinner and the only decent bourbon available was Knob Creek....hadn't had it in a while and it was ok tasting with a few ice cubes.

Finished off the night with some OGD BIB while back at home.

Funny I had a similar experience in a steakhouse...I tried to be Mr. Big Bourbon Drinker and order Knob Creek neat, but I just couldn't hack it. The stuff was overpowering so I requested a separate glass of ice cubes. It went down alright after that.

(I do like some bourbons neat. I guess it had to do w/ the moment more than anything.)

Looked for something light and easy to pair with a cigar... a bit of Beam Double Aged fit the bill with the sweet notes and lower proof working well with the cigar...

I had a busy drinking day yesterday with a Japanese whisky tasting event followed by a beer tasting event last night. Japanese whisky has become very popular here, but I can’t say I was that impressed and the whisky was expensive as hell. I did round up the evening with a Parkers 2010 as a nightcap back home.

EWSB 2001 after watching my Braves lose to the Mets. To me the 2001 is slightly more medicinal than the 2000, but not in a bad way. After trying this a few different times I think that, while it's not on par with the 2000, it's still a very good bourbon...and a very good addition at $19.99.

After a big Sunday dinner, I'm really enjoying the Buffalo Trace White Dog as a digestif.

Despite it's high proof, it offers a very rich and velvety cream corn flavor, and without any sort of overpowering alcohol hit. On a side note, the BT White Dog seems to have a ton more body and thickness as compared to many of the micro-distillery unaged whiskies.

Finished off the evening with some OF Signature and VOB BIB. Both are very good, although I do wonder why I don't visit the OF Signature more often!
