I had a busy drinking day yesterday with a Japanese whisky tasting event followed by a beer tasting event last night. Japanese whisky has become very popular here, but I can’t say I was that impressed and the whisky was expensive as hell. I did round up the evening with a Parkers 2010 as a nightcap back home.

I'd be curious to hear more as I am always hearing about how great Japanese whisky is...I haven't tried enough to agree or disagree. What did you try and what was it that did not impress you?

EWSB 2001 after watching my Braves lose to the Mets. To me the 2001 is slightly more medicinal than the 2000, but not in a bad way. After trying this a few different times I think that, while it's not on par with the 2000, it's still a very good bourbon...and a very good addition at $19.99.

I'm very jealous of that price. Around here $25 is the lowest it gets. And the places that still have the 2000 are 32-35 :bigeyes:

2009 Julio's OWA... nice pour but a bit of heat on the back..

Just finished a Julios 6yr Willett and am now enjoying about a half dose of KCSB decided to add a couple of drops of water and it seems to have opened it up and softened it quite a bit. I will have to try it neat again before I have any thing else

It's from the first edition in 2007, Jack. I believe they had 3 different proof offerings that year. BTW, it has been my favorite of the series "by far"...until the 2010 Edition. Now, the '07 is just "barely" my favorite. And, on some nights..........

Working my through a 4 rye tasting tonight starting with Old Overholt, Ritt BIB, Wild Turkey Rye and a night cap of Abraham Bowman Virginia Rye.

Finished the evening with just a splash of EC 18... a hard whiskey to beat for flavor and value when you get an "on" bottle. This 2-21-92 offering is on!!

I had some Woodford Reserve for the first time in about six months and I still think it's a fine bourbon. I don't come back to Woodford often, but it's what piqued my interest in bourbon back in 2008.

Later, after winning our softball regular season championship, I enjoyed a pour of Pure Kentucky XO (which I find to be very good at 107 proof and $27) and then a pour of OFBB 2008.

Believe it or not, had my first pour of Jim Beam White tonight. I was holding out due to some combination of peer pressure and snobbery. And...

It wasn't that bad, actually. Not great, but not really bad either. I liked the way it tingled and burned a bit as it went down. Notes of cherry cough drops and peanut oil. (Actually, I'm not a fan of the peanut oil flavor and texture which is present in this and several other products in the Jim Beam stable.)

Perhaps this isn't a bad value bourbon, but it isn't going on my list of favorites either.

Also trying Old Forrester for the first time tonight...this has a lot more burn than the JB white (which had more like a tingle, actually). Interesting that 43 proof really makes a big difference over 40 proof.

The main note I get in both the OF and the JBW is cherry cough drop. OF lacks the peanuty quality of the JBW, which is a good thing.

As it is the same here only now it is thunderstorming too I'll join you with Rare Breed from 1995. I also had to sit through 35 degrees and rain at the White Sox game last Saturday, with a 2 hour delayed start thrown in.

I'm having a pour of Anchor's 15 year Hotaling's whiskey. This is a remarkable whiskey with an endless finish! This rye defies explanation, should you find this elusive bottle, do yourself a favor and grab a couple.
