I did have 2 rums before dinner today. Diplomatico reserve exclusive from Venezuela and 19 years 1988 vintage Enmore still Demerara from Guyana. Very big variation with the Venezuela being very, very sweet, chewy, with lots of vanilla, but also a very artificial flavor profile. The Enmore is light, appeasing and do taste a lot of rum and arrack. I like the later a lot, but not the first.

Then after dinner WRMCMW and Parkers 2010.

I don't know if anyone tasted the Beam 6 grain Leif brought to the Gazebo just held. It had a typical Beam nose (Beam Black, Baker, OGD type) and the taste was similar to those but more complex. I couldn't really say I tasted rice or the other non-traditional grain, but there was good length and finish. Still, you have to like the basic Beam profile, it didn't depart from that.

I don't care much for the Beam profile and haven't since the 70's.

I'm sitting back enjoying several generous pours of Eagle Rare 10 to celebrate the birth of my 7th grandchild today. Kamryn Dawn Wilhite 8 pounds 15 3/4 ounces and 20 inches long. Baby and mother doing well. I now have 6 granddaughters and 1 grandson. Life is good but it does get noisy around the homestead on the holidays.

I'll drink to that! Congratulations, GH. Glad to hear momma, baby, and Old Grand Dad are doing well. :DSo, I'll pour that OGD 114 in honor of your growing family.

OGD 114 for me too, Joe. I sure do love the stuff! A true whiskey bargain and one that's often overlooked, even by people in the know.

Finally have a day off tomorrow after a long stretch at work. Cracking a OF Birthday 2010 that's been sitting in the stash for the right opportunity. Excited to have a couple of generous pours while enjoying a movie. We'll see what develops from there.

Had a couple of projects to do around the house today. The most complicated one was installing a new garbage disposal. I put on some good music, (thanks Cliff) and jumped right in. Done, all is good. No leaks, new switch/electric works, and it's quiet as a mouse. Plus, the wife is a happy camper. :woohoo: Celebrating with a pour of Pappy 15. Not a bad day so far. My son and his family are coming over and bringing supper. I may have to edit this post later. Cheers! Joe

After being sidelined for the day with a killer sinus headache, I finally feel mostly human and I'm taking in the race with some Lot B. I don't think this bottle will survive the night.

Weller 12. Time to watch the Tribe. Hope it turns out better than last night.

I held off till after the horses ran and started with Randy's 1792 pick (I can't put this stuff down, just love it) now being followed with the PHC wheater. I need to fortify myself for the White Sox game...no wait I already can't watch them, no matter how much bourbon.

A small pour of Russell's Reserve before dinner, a slightly larger pour of Van Winkle Rye after. The VWFRR is evolving nicely. Stone fruit was the main smell today.

Eagle Rare 17 (2010). Have been hitting the Stagg with regularity, time for contrast.

I'm sipping on some really nice "shine" at the moment. This is some of the best home made I've tasted in a long time.

Spent the better part of the morning helping my 90 year old father rake up the pine needles in his front and side yard. Had to make two trips to the dump. I think he has every pine tree in town. So I going to have several pours of AAA 10.

Alternating between Weller SR and EC12, need to keep growing the bunker.

Turkey night here. Started WT Rye, the WT101, now WTRB. Might finish the night with OWA to mix things up. We'll see.

Elmer T. Lee. I'm rather new to the bourbon scene and this is my first taste of ETL. Just opened the bottle this evening. Not bad at all!

Had a few mint juleps at a derby party last night - once a year I really enjoy this cocktail, although they do seem to go down way too easily!

Mint juleps (of course) followed by ETL 15.

I've never had a mint julep. Given my need to control my carbohydrate intake, I probably never will.

For the Derby, I had a great bourbon on crushed ice. It was very disappointing. This morning I had the same bourbon (PHC 2010) neat boy does it deliver neat.

I'm amazed at the difference in the bourbon when the style of presentation is changed.

Last night I had multiple Jameson and Ginger Ale's followed up by a Ritt BIB and Ginger Ale...I really liked the Ritt BIB and Ginger...had a nice spicy flavor vs the sweeter Jameson profile. :)

Ridgemont Reserve 1792 single barrel picked by the Kentucky Barrel Society, the 2010 "barrel of the year" bottling. A silky soft bourbon with a big clean flavor and a firm barley underpinning, probably a 19th century interpretation of the style. It doesn't get any better. (Thanks again Cliff).

WT Rye. This is nice. I get sour apple on the nose and a nice, fruity, dry palate. I've been wanting to try this for a long time. Thank you ThomasH for telling me where to get it. I'll definitely be picking up another bottle or two.

Always a great pour. My $21/bottle source in tax-free Delaware stopped carrying it and I can only get it at one place for $28.60/bottle. At that price, I haven't bought it in quite a while. I think it's time to pick one up.
