Blanton, once again available in Ontario. The green label 80 proofer. This bottling seemed lesser, with a chemically taste and a little rough. I like most Trace products but this one and the new Old Taylor did not impress.

Currently on my first and only bottle so far - Evan Williams BIB 100 proof white label. I'm enjoying it quite a lot.

Did not really buy a bottle but did purchase a shot of GTS...I wish this were half the price and in more abundance I think this could be my everyday pour, this is my first taste of it and wow full mouth I am not a reviewer or good at picking up all the flavors but this to me was sweet chocolate, caramel and (minty clove) that must be the rye??? I like this stuff and will have to be more on the ball next year and see if I can get some.........also tried some 12year old IW Harper from Japan (bottled maybe 20 years ago) a real soft and smooth wheater and tried the Angels Evy seems to me it was thin with a quick finish and yes I tried it first then the Harper and finished with the Stagg

I meant to say that the Stagg sucked and you should all pass on this so the price will drop and I will save you from yourselves it is all just over hyped LOL

Just small pours of a sampling around the bar, so far. Want to see where the sweet spot's going to be, tonight. McScrooge's OWA, VOB BIB, and Pappy 15. No determination yet, since I seemed to have found 3 sweet spots. :D

I was planning to pick some of that up when I was down for the sampler. On a lark, I picked up the 90 proof, 6 y/o, green label instead. It's very good. I think it tastes older than the BiB, as good as it is. Amy and I were drinking it at a table in front of the GN.

I'll join you with the same Joe. How can you go wrong with bourbon that proudly proclaims "CHARCOAL FILTERED, 6 YEARS OLD, MILD AND MELLOW" on the front, "Mellow & Smooth" on the left and "GENUINE...MELLOWED" on the right. Might even be possible to make a man mellow and buzzed  .

I thought Four Roses had all the Mellow Moments.

I've had a hankering for Heaven Hill products in the 6-8 yo range lately, in response to Ken's speculation that an 8yo might be a brighter and livelier bottling than the 10yo's we've been sampling for McKenna bottlings. Also, there have been some excellent barrels selected in the past year as sixes, sevens and eights.

I had heard that the 6yo Bond was in spotty supply. I didn't see much of it while travelling recently in southern Kentucky, but it seemed to be plentiful in central Kentucky. A couple of spot checked bottles had '04 and '07. One I came back with was an '08 (or was it '80? :skep: )

I finally opened up a bottle of ER17 '10 and had a few pours. I can understand some of the posts comparing Stagg to ER17, although given the choice, it'd be a no-brainer for me to choose the Stagg (fwiw, I don't add water). I don't know if there's any truth that ER17 is just watered down Stagg, but all I can say is, if true, then the higher ABV makes a huge positive difference in concentrating the flavors & aromas. And putting aside the differences in mashbill, the strength of wood & lack of sweetness reminds me a little of JPS18. Not a good choice for those who don't appreciate a lot of wood influence.

*crossing myself*

I started a less auspiciously today. JTS Brown on the rocks, with 3 dashes of Peychaud's bitters in a plastic cup as I took the baby for a mile and a half stroll.

I never take the stroller anywhere without Bourbon in a coffee mug.

On the porch last night I had some Weller 12 followed by Rock Hill Farms that paired great with the cigar I smoked.

Tasted like.......victory!

On a related note, when I first saw your name, Ian, my mind automatically jumped to Ian Stanback. At any rate, welcome!

Hmm, it sounds to me like the bourbon and cigars tasted the best in the bottom of the 9th.;)
