Picked up a bottle of Rare Breed, I think mostly because I've read good things about it here.

Picked up a sealed bottle of 1965 Old Forester 86 proof on ebay for 99 cents. The seller misspelled Forester which is probably why I am the only one who bid on it. The decanter looks like a pineapple.

I'm kind of surprised how often I'm getting blank stares out this way when I ask liquor store owners and managers if they had or expect to have any Van Winkle product. Although one today -- get this -- promised to check with his distributor to see if he could get me any 15 year.... :grin:

Picked up a 1.75 liter WT 101 today. I anticipate some nice slow glasses while I tend the grill on the back deck. Wish the weather would get consistently nice though.

Pure Kentucky XO 107PF... this was recommended and after a few pours it is pretty decent.

This week I was fortunate enough to pick up a few bottles each of PHC50, Pappy 15 and Pappy 20.

Stopped at a small liquor store in Laurens, SC and got the owner to sell me two bottles of WT 12 year for $70, two bottles of Kentucky Vintage 9 year (older bottle design) for $50 and a bottle of Benchmark Single Barrel for $20. I had been in the store before and his wife wouldn't bargain at all but she wasn't there yesterday. I stopped in 12 liquor stores in the upstate and found one that had hundreds of full WT and Beam decanters for sale at the price originally put on them when they came into the store but dont know enough about them to know what to get.

also picked up a 200 ml of Jim Beam Black to compare with Bookers.

I finally laid down the cash for my very own bottle of Whistle Pig rye. I also picked up a bottle of Templeton, even though I've been much less impressed with the current batch than I was with the bottles I bought in early 2010.

Damn that Whistle Pig is fresh! It's almost as crisp as the Handy, and at a lower proof has less of a tendency to numb my palate. I have to admit that it's absolutely delicious, but $70 is just too much to ask IMO. $50, $55 tops.

On the bourbon end of things, I found a bottle of Michter's 10 year-old single barrel bourbon on a shelf in Springfield for around $60. I haven't yet opened it.

Might get a chance to give my bank account a rest for a little bit seeing as PVW is getting tougher to find in the past couple weeks and I don't have anything else I'm really interested in until some Fall releases since dusty hunting in these parts seems to always come up bone dry

Finally bought some Old Charter 10yr. I am very impressed with it for the price ($16 here). I like it quite a bit. Now I wish it was a higher proof of course, but the flavors are nice. I wish I got to try the 12yr. I've read it's basically the same juice that Eagle Rare is. I still haven't tried that though, I think I need to. I always look at it, then get something else.
