MurphyDawg
Having a bottle of Old Buckeye bourbon would rock! (Being the state tree of Ohio and all, as well as Ohio State's Mascot, brutus). I am jealous of the label even. . .BLEEE!!TomC
bobbyc
They sell some of these labels at Heartland Decanters . I don't think there is a strong trade in fake Bourbon labels yet. BettyeJo could tell you more, I was in the label room at HH and it is impressive. They have piles of each one( and Hundreds of different labels) and you could imagine that if a brand was dropped , the labels would live long unless they were destroyed. Now every one knows they don't have hundreds of taste profiles or mashbills, so in with the dogs and cats.

ratcheer
Do you get the 10-year old or the 10-Star?Tim
tommy
This is the ten-year-old kind, I think (the only description on the bottle is "Full Ten 10 Years Old" right under the name, on a gold label, 86 proof). It's pretty damn good for a ten dollar bottle.
ratcheer
Yes, I used to drink that about 30 years ago. It was 90 proof, then. All I can get now is the 10-Star, which most of us agree is not nearly as good. Thanks, Tim
bluesbassdad
Henry McKenna Single Barrel (#170, barreled on 11/19/90).This may be my new favorite Heaven Hill whiskey -- or maybe I'm merely in a very gracious mood this afternoon. After I get to know this one better, I'll take a stab at posting mini-notes. My first impression is that it's somewhere between EC 12 and my bottle of EWSB '92, which is almost exactly what I was hoping for. A self-fulfilling prophesy, perhaps?Note to Bettye Jo: The extra steps that go into the bottling operation for this one must be either a source of pride or a source of aggravation -- maybe both. Was that particular shade of green (of the felt) selected for its similarity to the color of bluegrass?Yours truly,Dave Morefield
jeff
AAA 10yo is one of the best bargains out there. I used to drink it a lot. The was during the BS period. (Before Stagg)
jeff
In an attempt to recreate my epiphany from last night, and to celebrate Jim's news that Stagg will become a permanent fixture on bourbon shelves, I poured the last of a bottle. Good as ever though the magic hasn't begun yet. I think I need to pop open another bottle, hold on...Oh hell yeah!
CL
Is Heartland Decanters in Lebanon, KY? I found a reference to them with Google. Then I went to Ebay to look for bourbon labels. There's a person from Lebanon selling nearly the same batch of labels that my wife put in my frames. (I am at my parents' and its late, so I can't ask her if that's the person she bought from.)I wonder if there's a connection?
CL
Yes, she is. I was quite surprised.
CL
Well, I wasn't going to tip a bottle tonight. But, after reading about Weller 19 yo going away, I just had to crack open the bottle I coincidentally bought this evening in WV on the way to my parents'. My allergies kicked in with the change of location, so I don't know if I have all my senses. But, the Weller tastes unlike anything I've had before. It's very interesting and I really like it. I just can't figure out yet what I like about it. I'll see if my allergies calm down tomorrow and check it out again.
bobbyc
It's in Lebanon Junction Ky. Thats about 8 or so miles from Clermont. I posted a link somewhere in here in the past. Google heartland decanters should get to it. They have some neat stuff there and reasonable, I would expect prices to be firm during the Festival. however.Side note, I may grab another Weller 19 , It isn't a favorite of mine. When Linn pointed out that it had already been passed over by Mr. VanWinkle, well that sort of started the downhill slide. It is interesting and probably worthwhile,I feel kind of unenthused for this one.
CL
Found Heartland via Google this time. The first time I tried "Heartland Decanters" with the quotes. The quotes are what did me in. The second time, I did the search without the quotes and got to their web site. On the web it is called Heartland of Kentucky Decanters and Steins. Heartland of KY I also went back to Ebay and saw that the seller I mentioned earlier is also from Lebanon Junction. I guess I have been down I-64 too many times and just dropped the "Junction" without thinking. I know now that Lebanon Junction is off I-65 and is different from Lebanon off I-64. robbyvirus
Van Winkle Old Time Rye. The past few nights, I've been having a pour of bourbon followed by a small sip of rye, specifically the Van Winkle. I used to be not so keen about rye, but this stuff has really changed my mind! tommy
I'm drinking some Booker's, with lots of water and ice. I got a bottle of this stuff for my birthday, and I had a few nips mixed with just a little ice that night. It can really sneak up on you that way! Leads to some interesting betting at poker. brendaj
Jeff,I've been pretty busy lately and haven't been around. I'm catching-up on this thread and saw your post.
In reply to:
Old Grandad BIB. It really is amazing to me that in less than a year I have gone from one who only really liked wheaters to someone who would really enjoy the most ryed bourbon on the market. jeff
No, I haven't tried OGD 114 yet, but it looks to be my next bottle. Some here have said that they don't really care for the higher-proof OGD. What is your impression? Yep, I've been drinking bourbon for a number of years, but only tasting it for a couple and only REALLY tasting it since being here! bluesbassdad
EWSB '92 (in preparation for a side-by-side with Henry McKenna SB in the next day or two). I immediately recalled the following, although it took me a while to find it:
In reply to:
When I suck in a big sniff, I get something sharp and green, like the aroma of freshly peeled bark and the underlying green wood -- as when trying to break a branch from a silver maple tree in mid-summer. CL
GTS. It's been a few weeks since I've had GTS - I had to slow down on the consumption of it so it would last. Dang, is this the best elixir on the face of the earth or what? (Give me an AMEN, Bobby!). I know I've said it a million times before, but this is the nectar of the Gods. Tasting GTS got me thinking about Julian's upcoming cask strength ORVW. After I found out about it being barrel proof, I had consigned myself to getting just one bottle. But, now, I am wondering, what if it is in the same class that only Stagg occupies? I mean, Julian's other products are fantastic, but what if the cask strength takes it even farther? Will I be happy (bourbon-wise, not wallet-wise) with only one bottle? You know, though, when these are the decisions that occupy your mind, your life is pretty damn good. jeff
Once again, Weller 12yo. This is one of only 2 bourbons that I have been drinking the last week or so. The other...you guessed it, GTS. People listen to me, this bourbon is not just a good drink at a great price. Weller 12yo can rival any of the bourbons in the $30-$50 range with few exceptions. It's that good.
