Its been a Four Roses afternoon :

-'11 LE SmB

-TPS OBSV

-Kahn's OBSQ

All very delicious. Makes me wonder. How can one distillery do LE's and private barrelings so well, but can't make the yellow label more then a just mediocre pour?

All the swill has to end up somewhere.

FAmily took me out to Barrel 44, a local bar/restaurant place. Had three whiskeys there: Stranahan's (which surprised me, but I was happy to taste it again... I really like it) Blanton's and Woodford Reserve MC Maple finish. Later I had another pour of the 2011 Four Roses Small batch then finished the night off with TPS Jefferson's 18. Very good day.

Had a couple of neat pours of Buffalo Trace while enjoying Valentine's dinner at Davio's with Mrssmokinjoe. Now, it's an Evan Williams 7yr 90 proof Antebellum Decanter as we hunker down inside on a blustery and wickedly cold night here in Dixie.

A little taster of Lot B before calling it a night.

BTW "Mrssmokinjoe" has a lot more "Smokin", as in hot, goin on than SmokinJoe.

Just sayin.......

MB Roland black dog bourbon. Yum yum yum. Smoke, Carmel, maple on the nose. Butter, maple and a tad of beef jerky smoke in the pallete. I can't explain it but the smoke really fits in here. The finish has the alcohol come through a bit. The finish is a little short for me but really a very complex bourbon here. I would like the abv a little higher here but still my favorite pour. I do hope Paul decides to get more of this barreled soon. I would buy the whole thing! I hate that I only bought one 375ml while in Pembroke.

The wife just went to bed, which means it's time to relax! Got a healthy pour of WLW 2011 with a glass of Dupont saison—I love the contrast of yeasty flowery saison alternating with the maple cinnamon hot touch of vanilla.

The 2011 Sazerac remains my favorite of the 2011 Antiques, but this WLW is evolving so beautifully in the bottle. It's now about 2/3rds done; opened it approximately a month ago. This is actually the first glass I'm now feeling doesn't need any water touching it.

Out and about with the family last night, went to a restaurant with more than donzen different single malt Scotches and another dozen or so Cognacs, but only a Beam White and a MM46 (unopened at that) in the way of Bourbon.

Since it wasn't really a conducive environment for a straight pour, I opted for a MM46 perfect Manhattan.

While chatting last night I had a pours of Dant BIB (1970's), WTAS, and BHOGD 97. The WTAS killed the others last night...spicy entry with nougat and figs throughout...love it when you pick the right pour for what mood your pallet is in!

Enjoying some Van Winkle Rye. In my opinion it is the best product that you can still buy today with the Van Winkle name on it.

What do you think about the 2008 OFBB? Did you enjoy it?

I'm curious also. I've had the '08,'09, and the '11. I've found the '08 and the '11 to be a good balance of sweet and rye spice. I really like them both. The '09 lacks the sweetness that I enjoy in the other two.

Trying a few variations of OWA tonight. So far they all hold their own in their own unique way. One sweet, one with a lot of wood, and one with caramel with a touch of cinnamon.

I have enjoyed it. Certainly a change from my ETL I just finished. A few drops of water really brought out the sweetness in the nose and taste and also less mint at the back. From what I have observed, I have enjoyed it better after a meal than before. I have spent more time breaking this one down than any other I have had, but has been a good experience for me.

PHC 10 is especially good with breakfast.

Well I'm on a calorie-crunching diet at the moment. So my bourbon/beer/wine consumption has gone drastically down. Tonight I had some calories to burn after being especially good in my eating today. So I started out with some OGD 114. While good, it didn't quite hit the spot. Now I'm drinking some Weller Antique 107. This is closer to what my palette wants tonight (I guess). However I'm seriously eyeing my two unopened bottles of Pappy wanting to give the 20 a try as I've never had it. Must... resist..!! The bottles look so nice unopened!
