I think I might be on the brink of a cold. I thought I would have a rye + ginger before bed instead of nyquil. I used the Willett 4 year. While I'm not really a fan of this rye straight, it definitely makes ginger ale taste better. Not a bad mixing rye at all. The higher proof makes it stand out nicely through the ginger ale without adding too much sugar or depleting the carbonation.

I went to an engagement party tonight and they had WR and JB. I went for the WR. ehh. now I'm home with my FR1B. There's no place like home.

Started the night with a pour of EWSB 2000, very tasty. Finished the night with a splash of Tuthilltown Baby Bourbon. Not super impressed overall, although I liked the other two offerings I tried from them.

sipping on a pour of EC12 this evening. I love the finish of this whiskey.

I agree, IMO the finish is where a good whiskey becomes great.

PHC 10 is especially good with breakfast.

I'm not a regular morning drinker like some, but I have had occasion to drink bourbon during morning hours, and it was at such a session that the PHC wheater finally revealed itself to me as the exquisite package it is.

I have a very strong sense memory associated with morning and the PHC wheater. I've only gone through one bottle, but I've managed to bunker a handful away, so someday I'll revisit it.

Oh, and I haven't touched bourbon since last Tuesday, which is quite the fast for me. The only problem with enjoying whiskey is that your intestines must be in some sort of sound working order. Otherwise you're inviting more pain than pleasure. Happily, I seem to be recovering, but for some reason I've stuck with Irish and rye tonight; I'm saving the bourbon for when I'm closer to 100%.

I've had the pleasure of easing back into it with Michael Collins 10yo Single Malt Irish, High West 21yo rye, HW 16yo rye and now Saz18 2011. I'm shocked at the resemblance of this Saz18 to the VWFRR, but I'll leave that for another post.

Been struggling lately with what to pour on any given evening. A good peovlem to have since I have found so many more tastes rhat I enjoy which has brought me to this point. I of xourse alwaus have my fallbacks, but evem those have changed. It used to be my fallnacks were Maker's Mark or Jim Beam Black, but they seem ro have been swapped out for Knob Creek or Old Weller Antique.

Tonight, Knob got the call as the go to choice.

Opened a bottle of current Vintage 17 tonight. This is good stuff on the first pour, and I'm really looking forward to what it'll be like in a couple of weeks. It seems like it's going to open up nicely. Anyone else who has had this around for a while care to comment?

Tonight I started with a Manhattan made with Bookers and some orange bitters - nice. Then a pour of Noah's Mill - nicer.

Expect that Vintage 17 to get a touch richer with some air time in the bottle.

2 pours. Started off with a touch of OF Signature from the beer fridge. As wonderful as usual. Now watching the Haney Project with Herman Edwards as his student, with a pour of McScrooge's 7yr OWA. I'm sure if I had to play a round of golf with Herman Edwards, I would need this entire bottle of OWA to keep me from going coo-coo. He's nuts! This OWA is stunningly good.

Valentine's dinner with great friends.

4RSmB before we left. EC-12 1B before dinner, and ETL pour after dessert.

Great pours, but even better fun with longtime friends dining together at Local 3 in ATL, and laughing over stories of many years ago of how we met our brides. :slappin: I was almost crying in hysterics at times.

5 couples with total married years of 129 years. Pretty amazing these days.

Best wishes to all on Valentine's Day.

Bill.

:toast: Nice, Bill. Cheers to you all.

Tonight, it's a few pours of Glenmore Yellowstone Mellow Mash. Of all of the dusties that I've run across, this is most definitely in my top 3 or 4 most favorite whiskies. Just a flavor bombshell from nose to finish.

Some tasty WT Rye, before going out to dinner with some friends, to a friend's BYO restaurant. Dinner saw some decent wines but now home and a small pour of Old Fitz BIB bottled in '84 is like manna from heaven. I know I know, it was glut whiskey and older than four years but if only we still had an affordable wheater with the cotton candy, pecan nut and praline tastes like this. I'm bowing at the S-W altar tonight  .

Had a nice pour of Knob Creek Single Barrel last night. An extremely delicious, near barrel-strength bourbon. Much better than the standard Knob Creek offering.

Truly excellent Bill! By the way, have you tried Local 3 for Sunday brunch yet? It quickly became my favorite brunch spot in the Metro Area.

Just had little nips of the following, to see what I'm in the mood for:

KCSB

vatting of 1988 Old Forester 86 and current OF Signature

5 year Willett Rye

Ardbeg 10

Laphroaig 10

Lagavulin DE

Whew, I'm feeling pretty good, all of a sudden!

I was informed earlier that I mistakenly passed on a couple bottles of Weller Centennial a couple months back. :hot: So I'm currently drowning my self pity with a pour of PVW20.
