I was informed earlier that I mistakenly passed on a couple bottles of Weller Centennial a couple months back. :hot: So I'm currently drowning my self pity with a pour of PVW20.

Ouch, write that one down in your book of lessons learned the hard way. My book is many thousands of pages long.

Valentine's dinner with great friends.

4RSmB before we left. EC-12 1B before dinner, and ETL pour after dessert.

Great pours, but even better fun with longtime friends dining together at Local 3 in ATL, and laughing over stories of many years ago of how we met our brides. :slappin: I was almost crying in hysterics at times.

5 couples with total married years of 129 years. Pretty amazing these days.

Best wishes to all on Valentine's Day.

Bill.

Terrific story! Did your brides enjoy the bourbon also? I'm wondering if good bourbon results in good marriages. icon7.gif

Still lovin' on Bernheim Wheat. Wonderful, doughy, goodness.

Just finished watching "The Nun's Story" with Audrey Hepburn on TCM. The Nuns didn't look like that at St Charles Borromeo, let me tell ya. :) Anywho, in the Spirit of the Holy Grail (In my bunker, anyway)...I'll sip next from an c.1970 Old Fitzgerald's 1849 10 year.

"Casablanca" just started on TCM. Could be a long night! :D

Enjoying WT Tradition to celebrate the Purdue win this evening.

My son and a boatload of my money are at Purdue. So for me it's always a good day when the Boilers beat Illinois!

I was out at a bar last night with a couple of friends - one was even wearing his Illini sweatshirt. But no bourbon last night. All they had were the usual suspects and I couldn't bring myself to pay bar prices for JB or JD. But I was enjoying some Goose Island Fleur - very unique but tasty stuff.

Bruce looked like he needed a drink at the press conference last night.

Tonight I'm dropping a shelf or two and am enjoying Bulleit.

On a rye kick tonight. Started with some VW Reserve Rye, then moved onto some Rittenhouse BIB. Kind of crazy to think I could get 3-4 bottles of the Rittenhouse for the same price as one bottle of the VW. I really enjoy the Rittenhouse quite a bit, glad my bunker is 5 bottles deep.

Broke down and opened my Pappy 20 last night. First time I've had the 20... and it was everything people said it would be. Best bourbon I've ever had. Period.

After a particularly long day, I felt I deserved a good long pour... But couldn't decide... I don't generally have barrel proof stuff when I need to be up early the following day, but wanted something deserving. I ultimately settled on Maker's 46. Unfortunately, while it is good... Tonight it is just leaving me feeling flat and disappointed.

Rittenhouse. This is really growing on me. With the possible exception of OWA, there isn't a better deal in deals.

I'm not sure why, but there is some TV that just cries out for watching with some bourbon. For me it's Sons of Anarchy, Justified, and Archer. For tonight's episode of Archer it was ER10. (nice bourbon reference even thrown in tonight) I picked up a 375 of the ER about a week ago just to try and it's disappearing at an alarming rate. I think I'm going to have to pick up a regular bottle.

Leadoff: Ritt BIB...does it get any better than this for $20?

Now at the plate: 4RSB/TPS-OBSV...I dunno, this one is growing on me.

In the batter's box: Bowman Rye/TPS, 136.9 proof...rye really does not get any better than this at just about any dollar amount

Batting cleanup: Undecided, Candidates: WT Tribute, THH, GTS....update later if I can find the keyboard again

I just opened Julio's OWA.I promptly poured half the bottle into a empty OWA bottle. The juice is tasting very good tonight. But I know it will get better with 3 or 4 weeks of air doing it's magic.

It's getting a little harder to find OWA in MA.When I find it there's only one or two bottles at the store.

I had the opportunity to have some PVW20 this year for the first time as well and while I was very impressed, what surprised me was how different it was from anything else I'd tried. It was like everything was completely rounded and smoothed - nothing sharp - almost no alcohol bite whatsoever - and of course, no rye. Nectar comes to mind and I can't wait to have more.

But I could also see where some might not like this quality as it didn't seem to be as vibrant as it could be - maybe almost too subdued.

I'm curious to hear your impressions in more detail if you'd care to share...

Just had a taste of a 3yo willet rye after the bottle has been open about 3 months. After taking the second sip and enjoying the long finish for a few minutes, I noticed an aftertaste that distinctly reminded me of a taste I have not had in years. The taste was of the original flavor bazooka bubble gum right as you first put it in your mouth when it was still had a slight dusty film. That was very satisfying.

I don't think it does. A buddy I do some trading with gets it for $13.99 in his area. I'd bathe in it for that price! :slappin:

Started with a nice pour of WTKS dark top. Really enjoying this bottle and it's almost gone. Good thing I have pewter tops in the bunker. But now I've moved onto some WT101 and all I taste is white dog. Quite the stark contrast.

I am sipping EC12 after a long work week. While I may not be able to accurately describe the taste; sitting in the quiet with a few ounces is just where I want to be.

Started with a nice finger of Knob Creek, then followed that with a finger of ORVW 10/107. Both are really nice, and I enjoy the contrast between rye and wheat.

ACDetroit aka Tony came over last night as he was in Chicagoland doing some work. We ended up hitting the opens and the bunker pretty hard...I was definitely feeling the affects of the booze this morning! We had pours of:

BMH 23yr Rye

FR OESO Binny's

FR OBSV SV Rutledge Bottle

FR OSBK MAWLS P/C

FR Bob's Blend (OBSK, OESK, OESO, OESQ)

Willett 8yr 1789b #4

Fighting Cock 8/103

Rebel Yell 90pr 1977

Noah's Mill 15yr 114.3 2005

Old Weller Special Reserve 7/90 1977

Needless to say I'm not having anything tonight! :skep:
