mosugoji64
Went looking for another bottle of EHT Tornado, saw a bottle of Sour Mash. Not only was it not Tornado, they wanted $100 for it, so I decided to PASS.

Trey Manthey
I heard that a grocery nearby had gotten a shipment of Pappy Van Winkle. I went by this morning and checked out their case:PVW 23, $400PVW 20, $300PVW 15, $90ORVW 10/107 $60ORVW 10/90 $50That price for the 20yo seems really out of whack. I passed on the whole lot, although I was tempted by the 15.
bgageus
Insanity. In some places, $60 will get you an EC 18 and an EC 12.One of those places is 3-4 Metro stops away across the border. To be exact, it would be $56.14 with tax, with change left for the Metro ride.
dohidied
Learned a valuable lesson the other day. Went back to two stores for some dusty Stagg I'd left on the shelf and was sorely disappointed. Obviously, I only have one person to blame. I just hope it was someone on here that cleared out Terra Linda.
Young Blacksmith
I've passed these up a few times, but wanted to get a second opinion.AA 10 year 80 proofAA 10 star 90 proofNeither was AAA, just normal AA.Also passed on a few handles of Old Forester 100 proof from the early 90's, if I didn't have so much in the bunker I'd pick one up. Special Reserve
Spent saturday night in Cincinnati, and spent some time today running around.PHC 1st and 4th..$62.99 eachPappy 15 and 20..$48.99/$95.99Bourbon budget is alittle strained right nowYou go directly back to that store and get the PHC 1st, 4th, and the PVW 15. These will be the best bourbons you will most likely ever own.How about getting them for me? (As if I need them.)PHC 1st is a tremendous ryed barrel strength bourbon, the PHC 4th is the famous wheated mashbill, and PVW 15 is PVW 15. Of all the recent pours these are the cream of the crop. The pricing is also great. In MI the PHC are $80+ and the Pappy is $75+.Don't mean to be preachy but you get going now. If it take your bourbon budget for the year it will be well spent.

Kalessin
Saw this little beauty in the store today and decided to pass. Here what the website says:An Award Winning Whisky, Cabin Fever is * Top Quality Rye aged in Non-Charred Barrels* Infused with 100% Vermont Maple* Chill Filtered to remove excess sugar* Smoothest Whisky on the shelf todayAn Authentic American SpiritCabin Fever Maple Whisky was developed by a small, third generation New England family. No corporate bailouts, no foreign take overs, just our small contribution to the American Dream of making a truly Authentic American Spirit.A few years ago, some friends of mine and me got into a few bottles from Macallan called "Amber", which was maple syrup infused scotch with a little pecan flavoring. Super sweet, but fun to drink. "Amber" is gone from the market, unlikely to return, but I have a few bottles bunkered. The Macallan stuff inspired a friend of mine to seek out all the maple syrup infused whiskies on the market, and she found about ten. I don't remember the names of them all, but I do remember that we rated Cabin Fever at the bottom of the blind tasting, and Sortilege, from Canada, at the top.I made some of my own maple whiskey liqueur this winter from WTR and Grade B (dark) maple syrup, mixed half and half. All you need to do is leave it in the fridge for a few weeks, shaking it every five days or so to help mix. Dilute with a little spring water when done if it's too alcohol-hot or too "thick".Next time I'll use a bourbon instead of a rye, and maybe Grade A (lighter) maple syrup, as it was tough to get the flavors to balance.(By the by, Grade A, Grade A Dark and Grade B syrup have nothing to do with the quality, it's about the color and strength of the flavor.) atfree
I passed on 2 bottles of 375ml Old Fitzgerald Prime, with a 96 on the bottom and a UPC beginning with 88076. The best information I have been able to find indicates that OF Prime is aged 6-7 years, which would make this 1996 bottling likely to be Stitzel-Weller. I have no clue if this is correct.Could someone with more knowledge of the SW brands educate me on whether or not the bottles, as described, sound like they are distilled by Stitzel-Weller? I have been attempting to find some true "dusties", but have largely been unsuccessful. Part of this could be due to a still limited knowledge of what all to look for. jersey12
Just came from a shop that had the entire BTAC in stock (at least two of each). I figured that there was a good reason for this, so I when I asked for the price of the Saz 18, I was expecting it to be high but then was pretty shocked at the $184.50 I was told. Same price even for the Handy when I've seen in recently for $60. Oh yeah, they also had 4-5 PVW23's for $400 a pop. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this store. BarrelChar
Saw Weller 12 (1.75 ML) on sale for $32. Even at that price and facing the possible cancellation of the product, I'm still not interested. Maybe deep down, I'd rather wait for the Spring release of Van Winkle Lot B so I can pay four times as much.
