Not so bad yourself. Have you had the Black Maple Hill yet? If not, you should crack open that bad boy right away to see if you need to purchase the other bottles.

Still working my way towards Milwaukee. Today started off in Arkadelphia, AR, and I'm now in a hotel in Litchfield, IL.

Little Rock, Arkansas yielded a few dusties:

ND OGD 86 from about 86

UD GD 12 from about 84

BT OC 12/90 375, just to try as I'm always finding larger bottles of this stuff

Lots of stories about a collector from Tennessee who swoops in every year and cleans out stores. I'd call Little Rock 95% hunted out, and it may be more like 99%.

Further down the road I picked up a 375 of OF 86, 354 juice for sure, and a 375 of JW Dant bonded 2/31. This store had a half full bottle of bonded OT, not for sale though. The strip seal had been broken, and it looked to me like someone enjoyed a bit of it. The owner claimed it was just evaporation.

I also picked up an '11 OFBB.

In Cape Girardeau, MO I found Primo Vino wine and spirits. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about his products, and stocks some great stuff, with a higher price to boot. I passed on a Ritt 25 for $200 and Jefferson 18 batch 12's for $90+. I did pick up a Noah's Mill, got a sample of an open bottle, and then cracked the OGD I purchased earlier in the day for him to try. It needs time to open up, but it was still good.

Ended the day at Dean's Liquors in Collinsville, IL, where I picked up a Vintage 17 and a McKenzie Rye. They didn't have a huge selection, but about half of their stuff I can't get back at home. I had a hard time deciding between the McKenzie Rye and Bourbons, but went the Rye route as I can always drive through on the way home and get the bourbon.

Tomorrow I may hunt a little around Bloomington and Springfield, but really want to make it to Milwuakee and north earlier to pick up a Fleischmann's rye.

Yes you can.

I believe my ignorant state of Indiana is the only one left out of 50 with that retarded law.

I grabbed an OGD 114 in PA this weekend to replace a recently departed bottle.

There aren't many bottles that I replace quickly after killing one, but the 114 makes that list.

I was visiting family in Cincinnati this past week and came home with a few gems:

Abraham Bowman TPS Batch 11

John J Bowman Batch TPS 45

Bowman Brothers Small Batch

Four Roses 100th Anniversary

Sorry for stealing from the real bourbon enthusiasts.

Glad I drove through yesterday, picked up a couple good picks in Clarkesville and New Albany.I thought Michigan and Wisconsin used to both abide by that law also but its been a few years.

It's county by county here. Mercifully it's not an issue in Fayette.

Back on topic, was hoping to grab something good at Four Roses yesterday, but Mother Nature had other ideas. Huge storm hit the area on Friday and they were hit pretty good. They were in clean up mode when we got there and had to turn people away. Bummer. So I bought nothing.

In Montreal, Fighting Cock. This is just an average bottle. Some have a more refined taste and silkier texture, others are more work-a-day.

But it's good whiskey and I'm still satisfied.

Count Texas in that small backwards group. And all stores that sell liquor can only be open from 10am - 9pm, monday - saturday. Stock up if you come to the lone star state to spend some time.

I continued a little dusty hunting today, without success. I just hit a few stores in La Salle, and Rochelle. I left Rockford, Springfield, Bloomington, etc, alone as I wanted to get up to the final destination of Milwaukee. The one liquor store I went to was closed here, not sure if it was store policy or what.

Coming from Texas, I was surprised to have the ability even if I didn't take the opportunity.

Georgia just overturned the statewide ban last year - but each county/city has to vote now to ALLOW it (and mine is having a second vote tomorrow on the matter). From what I've heard - it has passed in 95% of the counties where it went up for a vote (thankfully!)

Was in San Francisco over the weekend and found a bottle each of Weller Centennial Louisville and Dickel 10 BHC. The Weller I had been hoping to find for quite a while. It is very tasty- the Dickel is also, just wish it were a bit stiffer than 86 proof. It's so soft and smooth it drinks like water and really jumped out of the bottle quickly

Cheers,

RW

Well, not bourbon exactly but another bottle of Dixie Dew Corn Whiskey for a mere $12. This stuff is actually quite good and makes for a nice change of pace.

Unclebunk, in which state did you turn up the Dixie Dew? I'm curious because it's something I'd like to try (I really like Mellow Corn), but have never seen. I doubt either one will make it out to California, but it never hurts to hope. Is it essentially the same juice as Mellow Corn?
