Barclay Beach
Just opened my bottle. First pour improved with some water. Still has a way to go... Hoping some air time closes the gap in the coming weeks. I expect it will, so reserving judgement for the time being.

Meruck
I pass by 6-7 bottles of this stuff every time I walk into a few stores. It's not worthy of the name IMHO. It's not that it's bad by any means, it's a solid bourbon for sure and I would never turn down a pour! But PHC sets the bar very high....and this one fell short.Um............. Where is this place you speak of?

Halifax and I passed a bunch of bottles from batches 1 and 3 today. I like batch 1 okay, but it's not worth $80-90.

smknjoe
You were not imagining things. I picked up a 139.4 today. I'm guessing this is a 4th dump. #1a 127 proof (error label that was re-labeled)#1b 131.6 proof#2 133.2 proof#3 137.9 proof#4 139.4 proofI have seen in person all but #3.That's what all of the bottles are labeled as (139.4) that just hit shelves here this week. wmpevans
Any tasting notes on the latest dump: 139.4???I've just seen it in the ATL area for $79.
smknjoe
I couldn't resist anymore and cracked open my bottle (4th dump @ 139.4) last night...and I'm glad I did. No notes were taken, but it was surprisingly viscous, sweet, and flavorful. I think someone here described it as pecan pie (filling) and I would agree. So, I promptly went back to the store today and bought a case of it.If you like the PHC 4th edition of 2010 (and many do) you should like this as well. The wheat influence is very noticeable. ...and to think I initially passed it up due to a few negative reviews. The only review you can really trust is your own. Go grab a bottle wmpevans and decide for yourself.

I think I can get some of the final dump but have passed because of my experience with the first.
smknjoe
Oh yeah, the finish. The major complaint about this release. It's not the best in the world Phil - it's still short on flavor in the finish, but the heat remains. I had a couple of small pours and tried it neat and with some water. Once I started adding a little water it really blossomed into a great pour. I'll experiment a little more over the next few days to get the right amount of water dialed in and give you a final verdict. At this point I'm still willing to overlook that one small shortcoming. smknjoe
Okay Phil, the finish is very short on this dump too. After proofing it down to about 100-110 the finish starts in the middle of the tongue and within a few seconds it quickly moves to the back of the tongue/throat where it only lingers for about 30 seconds without much flavor. Everything before that is quite enjoyable if not phenomenal.Edit: I also want to add that this stuff takes water well without losing flavor or viscosity (at least down to 100 proof.) mosugoji64
While enjoying a glass of this tonight, it struck me that the prominent flavor seemed to come from the HH wheat profile. I thought that the likely ratio favored their rye mashbill, but now I think it may contain more wheated bourbon. Anyone else have any guesses about the ratio?
smknjoe
I agree that the wheated mashbill really shines through more than the ryed, but here it is in post #1 of this thread: http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?18229-Parkers-Heritage-2012&p=296953&viewfull=1#post296953

I forgot about that one. In that case, I'm very surprised at the result of that ratio given that I would have guessed the rye would overpower the wheat. Instead, the wheated bourbon is obviously strong enough to hold its own. Very interesting ...
Conquistador
From one San Diego-ite to another, thanks for the link! Thought I'd sipped my last drop.Savagehenry, you are more than welcome. One of the many things I find great about the SB site is that everyone offers up assistance whenever they can.I got your PM, and since you were able to place your order on the site, I'm hoping that they'll honor your purchase request for the PHC 2012! RWBadley
Last night I revisited the PHC blended 131.6It was late, I had just finished up small drams of one my home spun bourbon blends, and the PHC Wheated 10yo 127 proof. Both good pours, but neither reaching 'perfection of palate'So, now a small pour of the Blended and reading a good book. A taste and yowza!! I had to stop reading and concentrate on what I was tasting. This bottle has been open for several months and down about 20% from top.As I was saying, it was late and I didn't take notes, but I remember at that time thinking I was truly in the presence of greatness. No holes anywhere... just that perfection that allowed me to go yummm! Love it. I went to my local this AM and bought the last one on the shelf. For the bunker ya know :grin:As far as I can remember, this PHC blended mashbill 131.6 version bested just about everything I've come across in the last while, with the exception of this years GTS which I've only managed to grab a taste at a bar or two in town.Cheers,RW Edited July 16, 2013 by RWBadley
jfw
I've been through almost two bottles of PHC MoM and I really like the stuff. Do I like it as much as the first four releases, no, but it's still a great pour. I wasn't a big fan of the PCH CF from last year - just not my thing. I'm grateful that the PHC releases haven't reached the PVW or BTAC craziness. Just today, I walked into my favorite retailer and purched one more for the bunker at $69. Well worth that price. Thanks Parker and Craig for all 6 releases. I can't wait for the next one!
