robbyvirus
Ancient Ancient Age. I bought this bottle when I went back east in June. You can't get this stuff out here in California, as far as I know. When I first tried it, I didn't like it at all...it tasted weak and watery, with an aftertaste of dried grass. I set it aside for awhile, but ventured back tonight to see if my initial impressions held up. Fortunately, they don't...this tastes pretty good tonight...smooth, kinda carmel-y taste. It still gives me that hint of grass flavor, but it tastes good this time. Nice!

CL
AAA varies with my mood. It is just like you described. Too weak if you want something strong, but if you are in a mellow mood, it really hits the spot!

Dave_in_Canada
Did a taste comparison tonight of ORVW 10yr (90proof) and 15ry (107). Enjoyed both very much and even managed to burn out my nose buds. Delighted in finally identifying what I like most about the 15yr. In two words? chocolate brownies. Let my taste buds relax for an hour and finished off with VW 12 year old. Smooth as silk. That's the bourbon that'll get my wife hooked. Better not let her have any!! jeff
Dave, I ran across this one dusty bottle in a small little liquor shop that I don't usually frequent. I had been searching for months and had all but given up when I stumbled across this one. Good luck in your search, but forget about the Liquor Barn or other large chain stores. bluesbassdad
George T. Stagg. No, it's not a special occasion, although, inexplicably, I saw a squirrel playing in my front yard today -- AFAIK, at least a mile from the nearest nut-bearing tree or semblance of open space. I am looking to finish off a few bottles, and the GTS was down to a drink or two.I sincerely thank whoever it was who convinced me to start experimenting with adding water. (Chuck C.?) My first splash still left me recoiling from a normal-sized sip. The second splash did the trick, but left me wondering just how much I had lowered the proof. (I plan another post on dealing with that issue.)For the first time I am detecting notes of tobacco in the nose. Of course, I know from my 20+ years of smoking a pipe that there are many distinctive tobacco odors, from the nose-curling sharpness of perique to the barely discernably fragrance of Maryland. I make the aroma in the current instance to be more like Kentucky burley, which I suppose is only to be expected.Yours truly,Dave Morefield

bobbyc
Jug On, Tommy. What do you plan to do with the extra cork? Does any one know why it has the extra cork?
Dave_in_Canada
stoneware dries out corks. If you're in and out of the jug alot, the cork will definitely break. HOW'S that for a quick guess?
Barrel_Proof
Burst my bubble, dude--here I thought the extra cork was so that you could record some way cool claymation/corkmation videos and sell them to the National Film Board of Canada, which would, in turn, sell them to PBS--the acknowledged home of claymation/corkmation mania! Dave_in_Canada
Man, I could hear your bubble !pop! even way up here. Actually, most of our NFB videos are actually made in France. We don't have electricity in our igloos so it's pretty tough to recharge batteries, and the film keeps snappin' anyhow!
Buckky
Tonight it was Evan Williams Single Barrel...Vintage 1990. I went to my favorite liquor store this evening and they had EWSB in both '92 and '93, but way in the back accumulating dust I saw a '90 that said "buy me". I like this whiskey...it is very easy, yet with more flavor than I associate with Evan Williams. Will soon do a side by side with Elijah Craig 12 to see if there are any big differences. bluesbassdad
I'll be looking forward to your comments on that comparison.IMO those two bourbons represent the most under-rated and most over-rated in the Heaven Hill line-up.Yours truly,Dave Morefield
Dave_in_Canada
I've been snippin' away at my EWSB90 for about a year now. Never saw anything great about it until I did a blind nose and taste test. I guess I was expecting more... but it's a fine Sunday afternoon drink. Kinda like a good friend in a dog... doesn't ask for anything, but very pleasant none-the-less. EC12 might be a bit of an overpowering partner though.
