black mamba
Can you taste the wood in the Jefferson 10 yo rye? Most 10 yo have a pretty good amount of char flavor, but not sure about this rye, never had it.
Pikesville
Can you taste the wood in the Jefferson 10 yo rye? Most 10 yo have a pretty good amount of char flavor, but not sure about this rye, never had it.To me it was not too noticeable- the flavor was dominated by the rye flavors (pepper, herbs, a little mint but not too much) coming from that hgh-rye mashbill. I prefer the Jefferson's Canadian-sourced flavor profile over those in the LDI-sourced ryes.

Grain Belt
Willett 5 yr. Only found this once. Always the 4 around here. Like this one quite a bit. I got ahold of the 5 year once and loved it! Now the same store has a fair amount of the 4 year old but I haven't tried it. What do you think of the 4 year old?
MyOldKyDram
If you like the 5 then the 4 yr won't disappoint. It's still plenty good by my count, maybe a little bit more of the pickle juice note, and the rye doesn't cut quite like the 5 does, but solid good stuff nonetheless. LostBottle
Had a pour of Saz 18 tonight. Enough has been said about this that I will refrain from gushing on about how good it is, other than saying I have been draining this particular bottle at a rapid pace. What do you think of the 4 year old?THe 4yr is also quite tasty. If by chance that store has barrel 1122, buy it. That one show up in state within the last year or so, and was quite good. I h e a couple of that barrel stashed. I remember Brisko thought it was pretty fine barrel also.If not, still buy one, I haven't had a 4yr that I haven't liked. Have a 5yr open currently in the rotation. B

brettckeen
4yrs are fine, 3yrs have been inconsistent, I have had barrels I enjoyed lot more than others. They all taste older than they are. Something about aging things at Willet......If not, still buy one, I haven't had a 4yr that I haven't liked. Have a 5yr open currently in the rotation. Yeti
Willett has several rickhouses on location for aging. I assume all of their releases are aged there (Bardstown).

Wryguy
What proof are these 5 years you're seeing? I have had the 3,4 and 6 year Willett ryes, and they were all 110 proof. Today I ran across 40 bottles of the 5 year, but bottled at 100 proof, for 30.99. I was amazed by the price, best I've ever seen for Willett rye, but then I noticed the proof. tanstaafl2
Both the 4 and 5yo Willet ryes that I have are 110 proof. They are from about a year ago though.

BFerguson
Ended the night the a pour of Hirsch 22yr rye. Dark and brooding, with a nose that wants to defy that its a whiskey, I always think ultra old rum with it. Thickly pouring from the bottle in to the glass.Sweet, rich flavor, little/no hit of alcohol, completely tamed by the barrel over the years, lingering taste. Sticks with you for hours after finishing. In the empty glass, long legs clinging all around the glass, the type when you have to let them settle, because you can get another small taste from them as the pool. Too good to waste. Its one of those items that I'm really blessed to have had the opportunity to pick up and enjoy, and share with others! Such a unique creature.B
whiskeyobsessive
God I love that Hirsch 22. Saving my last bottle. Right now I'm into a bottle of Very Olde St. Nick (NAS) I had shipped from Japan. I'd love to know what is in it. It to me doesn't taste exactly like LDI rye, but maybe it's just a bit older? Very reminiscent of Jeff 10, actually (though that's canadian). Either way it is quite good an well worth the $35 I paid...probably not worth the shipping. Unlike what I hear about the older versions, it's not a bit over-wooded. How is the Hirsch 21, esp. in comparison to the Hirsch 22? I've never managed to get my beak in a pour of the Hirsch 21, would love to know your impressions.
