Late last night, before the time shift, I opened the ole wallet for a Glendronach 14. I'm into my 2d year courting the water of life....and it will grow on you. Balancing the wants & needs with my bourbon relationship can be somewhat trying at times....with budget & wife.

I will probably be castigated or ignored for this, but yesterday I wanted to drink some scotch, not having to meter it slowly out of a $100 bottle. So I bought a bottle of plain old Grant's, and it is damned tasty for the price.

Tim

PS - My first choice would have been Teacher's Highland Cream, but they apparently do not carry it in my state ABC stores.

ain't nothing wrong with that. I love a less expensive blend at times myself.

Stand fast there Tim, folks who drink labels have been turning up their nose at plain old Grants for about a hundred years now.

Thanks, guys. I am retired now, and as much as I would have liked to spend $60-100 on a bottle of great single malt, it's just not the right thing to do ATM. Maybe for Christmas. Besides, I still have what's left of my The Balvenie 15-year old.

I bought the one without the packaging. I'll have to go look at the batch number when I get home tonight. Is there a difference? which is better?

Picked up an Ardbeg Uigeadail.

Next on the list is Glenlivet Nadurra. Any particular batches to seek out, any to avoid?

Given the recent angst over fall limited releases from 4R, BTAC, VW, etc., I've decided to settle for a consolation prize:

Lagavulin 21 / 2007 - while there may not be any unicorn piss in it, this bottle was cheaper than paying B*X* prices for PVW20

Thats a pretty bottle CW, never tried that old of a Lag. Does the peat soften up like it does with the older Taliskers?

Bought a bottle of the Great King St. blended whisky from Compass Box. This is my 3rd bottle and while the first two were great, this one--bought just recently and bought quite while after the first two--is not nearly as good. The first two were soft and sweet and crisp, but these one tastes... well, alot more like a blend. It's not bad by any means, just not as good as the first two. I wonder if anyone else has tasted a similar drop, or if I got a stray mediocre bottle.

wow that's a pretty bottle. I like your thinking and I agree with your sentiment. it's actually a great time of year to find that kind of stuff when everyone else is searching for and saving up for the annual releases leaving other treasures on the shelf. I remember last year I was in a shop that had a PVW15 at like 3x msrp and right next to it a Lag12 DE 15% below msrp.

Saw a Longrow NAS (Springbank's peaty cousin) on the shelf yesterday. Don't think I have seen Longrow much in this area, if at all. Is it worth giving a try?

I haven't had the NAS Longrow, but I've had the 10, the 18, and the Gaja Barolo - these were all very good.

Probably the CV? White label with gold lettering or red lettering? The red lettering one has a big Cabernet influence. I'd go with the regular old CV. I looooove Longrow, though I've never actually had the CV. Supposedly it's pretty aggressive peat-wise.

This one I believe.

Looks like what you describe.

Swung by a store I have not visited very often in last couple of years. Found a home for a couple of orphans found therein: Glengoyne 10 & Balvenie FR.

It's Bama game week! I'm very keen to hear your thoughts on the Balvenie.
