ChainWhip
I had to take my cap off in a moment of silence when I found out about LB's buying freeze...But I'm celebrating now as one of the all-stars of rye hunting is now out of the game. More for me I thought initially but sadly there is very little left out there in the wild I think.
JKLS
In chat last night we were drinking some ryes, ChainWhip at one point had some 10yo Michter's rye. I mentioned I loved the Michter's 10yo bourbon but had never even seen a bottle of the 10yo rye in my area. Today I got out of work early, stopped at two package stores, didn't find anything interesting. Then went to bourbon & pizza bar nearby that I love. Had to park farther away that I usually do and ended up walking by another package store that I have never been to before, in a not so great part of town. Popped in and what do you know, Michter's 10yo Rye. Sold.

smknjoe
I admit that I prefer bourbon over rye, but WOW!Edit: What's really cool about that find is that you will actually crack it open soon with tasting notes.

smknjoe
Have to say I am completely stumped, never heard of Red hook rye. Do let us know how it is.Probably because it's very rare (everyday pour, lol.) It's along the lines of Rathskeller and some old BMH and Willett ryes http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?19223-Rathskeller-Rye&p=321147&viewfull=1#post321147

LostBottle
I taunted him by sending him a picture of 4 ridiculously rare ryes that showed at my house last night for temporary storage.. That is Lenells Batch #1, all bottles of Lenells were sold with a letter from Lenell describing how they picked the barrel and also has cocktail recipes on the back.. That makes me chuckle as I am thinking of the look of horror I would have if I saw someone using this to make cocktails Yeah, when I saw the rye porn photo of those 4 bottles... I am really glad that rye ended up with someone who will open it and enjoy the hell out of it. Well done, Mike. jeffrey r
Smooth Ambler 7yr. 3 yrs older than the Willet Rye it was sitting next to, for only $3 more. You know, that's a good point. I had each in my hand the other day, and put both back. The SA is $36, and the Willett $35. I already have a bottle of the 4-year Willett at home, so that got sacrificed as I was loading up on bourbon. The SA I just decided against at the time. Notwithstanding the price and age difference, any thoughts on flavor between the two?

Notwithstanding the price and age difference, any thoughts on flavor between the two?I have had both though not near as much SA as Willett. To me it is typical MGPI rye. More proof helps but I don't find any of them to be all that different even if slightly older unless they have been finished or altered in some way (Dickel, AE Rum cask, Hooker House, etc.). Others likely have more discriminating palates! Maybe significantly older it would be different but 4 to 6 or 7 year old MGPI rye whiskey seems pretty similar to me, no matter who bottled it.
