tanstaafl2
I haven't had it, but I've read it's preferred by some to the 18 that replaced it. I'd probably be inclined to buy one around $75 give or take.If you find it at $75 and like the Islay style it is a definite buy. But you would probably be lucky to find it at $125-$150 these days unless it is a store with leftover stock that doesn't know what they have. Yeti
At those prices I'd pick up some Signatory cask strength 14-16 year bottles. The two that I've had were absolutely amazing, but $150 is a lot for 15 year scotch IMO.

Yeti
There are plenty of them around. It's hard to recommend it based on price, but at the same time, very little chance you'd regret it. They're absolutely delicious and complex. But you can get 3 bottles of Laph 10 year CS for a few more dollars, so it's not much of a value proposition. RVTsteve
· Hidden Hidden Found these out hunting yesterday think they're from the early-mid 80's. The guy wanted $35 apiece and we just couldn't get together on a price...yet, so I had to pass for now. Link to comment

RVTsteve
I've been interested in trying a bottle of JW Swing since I learned of it and saw Ralfy's review. Of the JW's I've had, which isn't much, I enjoyed them well enough. I've seen the current offering at my local Bevmo going for $59.99 but I'm not really interested at that price. When I saw this bottle at a hole in the wall liquor store in Oakland for $39.99 I grabbed it. Doing a little research it seems this is an older bottle from at least pre-1987 since that's when Somerset Importers merged with Schieffelin but this bottle only reads Somerset. But according to one poster on whisky.com the bottle code on the bottom links it to 1967-1972 and might be "worth" a pretty penny more than the price tag. http://www.whisky.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54416 "It (sc699)was distilled between mid 1967 through november 1969 released in 1970 through 1972. Value in sealed undamaged box $275 dollars. With no box and sealed $185.00. If you should come across a unopened swing gold label with a cork top instead of screw off its worth around $2000.00. Hope this helps" Edited August 1, 2013 by RVTsteve
tanstaafl2
I have an unopened bottle of JW Swing purchased at Hong Kong Duty free probably sometime in the 80's or maybe early 90's but don't have a picture handy. Will take a couple when I get home to see how it compares. Pretty sure mine is a screw top though!I've been interested in trying a bottle of JW Swing since I learned of it and saw Ralfy's review. tanstaafl2
My Swing dusty. Purchased in the Hong Kong duty free probably in excess of 20 years ago. Might have been well over 20 years. Looks a lot like yours except the label is a bit different and oddly there is no indication of proof to be found anywhere on the bottle. If it came with a box it is long since gone. Bottom bottle code is similar with SC 699 on top but has 36 on bottom left instead of 28. The same U9 is on the right.
dohidied
I found some Sheep Dip pure malt 8 year the other day. I couldn't date it specifically, but from what I can find this was the bottle design from the 90s. Tastes fairly dry and a bit peaty. I didn't study it very deeply, but it showed promise. I think they initially have a box, but mine was long gone as well. If you post pictures to whisky.com someone might date it for you and provide more info.I found some Sheep Dip pure malt 8 year the other day. Decent stuff and at 30% off the price of the current release you can't really go wrong. Were you in El Cerrito by any chance?
