Renegator
I am headed to Bourbon Country next week and we have a VIP tour set up at Four Roses Cox's Creek. I know they have a gift shop there. Is it the same as the gift shop at the distillery? Do I need to go to both? By same - I mean tasting is the same and available bottles for purchase are the same. Anyone been recently to know?
DPPSmoker
I visited the bottling and warehousing facility yesterday and the distillery today. I was offered the yellow label, small batch and single barrel to sample at the bottling facility gift shop but I only tried the yellow label. I saw they had three barrel strength bottles at the bottling facility gift shop but they were reserved for someone else. The bottling facility gift shop has a fraction of the merchandise that is at the distillery gift shop - everything that is at the bottling gift shop will be at the distillery gift shop. At the distillery gift shop today, there were none of the gift shop bottles that have been reported to be sporadically there in the recent past. I'll be picking up three bottles of 12yr 7mo OESO tomorrow from the Cox's Creek GS! Edited September 19, 2013 by hectic1
theglobalguy
I'll be picking up three bottles of 12yr 7mo OESO tomorrow from the Cox's Creek GS! Assuming DPPSmoker doesn't tackle you in the parking lot  Will say, i've had SB'ers post about GS bottles...go 1 day later and have them all gone. They seem to have barrel strength in stock in Lawrenceburg about half the time i've been there. Then again, they may just be holding cases of the stuff behind the counter unless you know the secret handshake.
DogfaceSoldier
I stopped through the gift shop about a month ago and they had four different barrel strength bottles available. I bought a bottle of each OBSQ and OBSV though I don't recall the other two barrel strength recipes. Each was $60ish before tax.
hectic1
The bottlings that were/are available for Sept are OESK/OBSK OESO/OBSO...don't know the ages on the other 3 bottles but the OESO was 12yr 7mo.
Beer&Bourbon
I went back when they first started the gift shop bottlings. At least back then they had bottles at both locations, but the larger allotment went to the distillery shop. Idk if that is still how they're running it, but I'd say it's worth the time to hit up both anyway. 4R and Buffalo Trace were my favorite stops on the trail. That is what I bought in very early August when I rolled through. I thought, though, that I saw another OE variant.
BFerguson
Buy at both if them have them, problem solved. If Jim is picking it, no matter what the recipe, it's dang fine stuff!!B
mbroo5880i
You would think that all of the products would be available at the gift shop all the time.
theglobalguy
You would think that all of the products would be available at the gift shop all the time.Maybe the confusion is coming from above dialog. Referring to Private Selection (barrel strength single barrel), effectively once each barrel runs out..they pick another.
garbanzobean
Sorry for the necro on the thread, but I will be in Kentucky in about a week and a half to house sit for my parents, and I'm trying to figure out if there is a Four Roses gift shop at both the Distillery in Lawrenceburg AND at the Warehousing and Bottling facility in Cox's Creek. I see hours for the distillery Gift Shop, but no information about the Cox's Creek locale having one. Some of the posts in this thread seem to indicate that there is on at Cox's Creek as well. If there are gift shops at both, should I stop by the one in Cox's Creek on the way to the distillery for my tour, or should I just be happy with the one in L'burg?Either way I don't think I am going to go home sad . . . wallet will probably be a good deal lighter, though. callmeox
There are gift shops at both locations. If your intention is to pick up gift shop bottles, I believe that you can save yourself a stop at Cox's Creek by calling ahead to ask what they have. It's a neat place to stop and see regardless as FR has a style of warehouses that are not used elsewhere in KY. If I have time, I'd like to stop by at both, as the single story warehouse looks pretty interesting. Unfortunately, I can only be away from home for 8-9 hours, and with the drive being between 2-2.5 hrs to either, I may have to pick one and not the other. As far as bottles go, I'd love to bring back one or two. My wife would probably kill me if I showed up with all 10 recipes . . .
p_elliott
You're not going to get all 10 recipes at the gift shop but like Scott said if you call a head they will tell what they have on hand.
p_elliott
As a side note to my previous post almost all if not all of the gift shops will help you out if you call a head. Work with these people they will speed up your time and make your travel more enjoyable.

KySalesRep
Be sure and say hello to Dan while you're down there! My schedule varies, but I'm usually there more than I'm not . I actually haven't been to LBurg in the last couple of weeks, but the last time I was there, they told me they were going to try to keep all 10 recipes on hand. They had sold out of about 3-4 recipes and they said they were going to try to replace those so they could have all 10 in stock.

I will be stopping at the distillery at the beginning of April and would love to be able to purchase some of these. I would buy all 10 recipes if I didn't have the missus with me. KySalesRep
Quick update: I just called the LBurg gift shop and was told they are down to 3 Private Selections: OBSF, OESK AND OESQ. They said they were going to try to sell some more of these before adding anything new.
garbanzobean
Thanks for all the help gentlemen. I'm heading to KY this upcoming Saturday, so it'll probably be Wednesday or Thursday of next week before I get over there. Excited to meet the Four Roses family and see just how much of their bourbon I can sneak past my wife.
suntour
hahaha, I have a connection who is supposedly holding a bottle of FR125 for me. My wife will be with me when I go to get it, looking forward to explaining the near $100 price-tag. "Yeah, I owed him money from before." You won't have that excuse to hide behind.
