What bourbon are you drinking - Fall 2013

I had an impromptu tasting with a few people (newbies.) The line up:

Stagg Jr.

WTRB 1999

OWA 2007

The noobs liked the ECBP, ORVW, WTRB, Stagg, OWA, Stagg Jr., and both 4R in that order. Most could not tell much difference between the 2 Four Roses bottles. I also let a couple of people try an old bottle of RHF, that I don't care for, just to see what they thought and they didn't like it either. In all fairness I suspect it's a "bad" bottle.

The ECBP was the favorite by far. Everyone thought is was quite unique and the most flavorful of the lot. I went from youngest wheater to oldest. And then from lightest and/or lowest proof ryed to darkest and/or oldest ryed ending with the ECBP.

I didn't have any bourbon last night, but I did bring an ECBP along for my friend to try while we watched the Colts/Broncos. He was comically hung up on the looooooooooong finish.

Some good whiskey weeks in October. Yesterday brought some Weller SB blend and Bowman's small batch during football, while taking a small dose of PVW15 to end the night. Saturday I cracked open some OFBB and ET Lee.

Just kept creeping up the BT line. Started with Buffalo Trace, then ETL. Followed that up with Stagg Jr.

Since I had nothing I wanted to do and all day to do it, I started out the day with a little pour of WLW 134.8. Sip and relax, how nice.

Not usual for a random Monday, but feeling a sore throat coming on and utilizing the well known medicinal properties of bourbon whiskey. In this particular case SB blend. First dose worked so well that I took a second in the form of V17. Wheaters are good for what ails ya.

ND OT,I bet this would pair incredibly with a large bowl of vanilla ice cream but I don't want to chance missing one butterscotch note in such a delectable pour.

The last ounce, or so, of an '11 Stagg. I am sure there is no better bourbon to anticipate throwing to the empty pile than any Stagg. Simply because, the last pour left in the bottle is positively gorgeous, and unmatched in whiskeydom...Nearly black in color. Heavy and thick. Fine pieces of gritty char sediment is caked on the bottom of the bottle. When swooshed and dumped into the glass, it makes for a one-of-a-kind experience in Bourbonia. For me...bourbon Nirvana. Sure, some other barrel proofers have some shtuff floatin' around, but nothing like Stagg. I'm going to nose, sip, chew, and crunch on this for a while...:yum:

With all of the work that can go into scoring a Stagg, it's always a great thing when you succeed...but, it's even better to finish off a Stagg...
