So what you're saying is the rest of us need to walk around Lexington with "will work for Bourbon" signs?

Whoa, hang on there! I didn't say anything about work....I try to avoid work at all costs . Just have very good friends that take pity on me and help me out with very good bottles. Sean, I will have to take a raincheck on the bottles that I missed tonight, glad you guys kept on truckin after I left!

I'll bring the Lot 40 2012 and some other fun finds and take you up on that offer. At the least the White Castle is worth the journey, though it will likely feel different the next morning!

OGD 114 while watching the closing innings of the Red Sox/Cardinals game.

I can't believe that crazy last play of the game. That was just... weird. Oh well, there's always next game...

Moved on to ODG 114. Sean, hope that White Castle run you guys made tonight doesn't end up turning into a "Great White Castle Heist" thread tomorrow! Sounds like a party...

we had a halloween party, so the wife had out lots of wine, and i put out a stash of various proof bourbons for the few who actually drink it.

86 proof JB 8 year (Its still unopened, no one wants to try it)

92 proof Larceny

100 proof Ritt BIB (BF version)

114 proof OGD

120 proof KC.

the KC nearly got wiped out. I'm not the only fan of that one!

nope. they had the 6 year, and some VERY overpriced stuff like 20 year or something. Ive had their 10 year and didnt care for it. I found it quite similar to ECBP....a high proof wood bomb. i shouldve grabbed the 6 year while i was there, but didnt know that ANY WFE was impossible to find at the time. the 6 year was $40, i figured the 8 year might be $50. beyond that, i'll pass

How much approximately were the 20 Year bottles?

i dont remember, but it was WELL beyond my limit, exponentially at that. there was one, dont remember the year, that was $400. that crosses the boundary from 'expensive' into 'stupid'

I have seen some 20+ Year WFE Bourbon for around $200. That is super-expensive but something I can deal with in very rare cases. Anything above that goes into the stupid territory for me. My sweet spot is $50-$100.

Had a great time last night splitting this 1.75 of ER up between Humchan and I. Threw in a few more vintage pours of SW Old Fitz BIB, ND OGD, and some recent Pappy 23. Took the opportunity to break in the set of vintage Old Fitz glasses I picked up this week in excellent condition. Then the Red Sox lost, but at least I had a ton of great bourbon to make me feel better.

well, it WAS the distillery gift shop, and usually GS offerings are jacked up in price........which really counters logic, as they dont have to pay for distribution or marketing.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I I actually think they DO have to go through a distributor to sell their own bottles at the GS.

That's correct.

Also, it is bad form to undercut local retailers. Think of gift shop sales as the convenience stores of the liquor world.

really?!

seems counterintuitive......buy it from another distillery, bottle and label it yourself, sell it to a distributor, buy it back from the distributor, then resell it right where it was bottled?

unless its a legal requirement, this sounds like one less than intelligent business model
