The three-tier-system is one of these obsolete government contraptions that has outlived its usefulness, but since there is money to be made by some of the parties involved - unlikely to be overturned any time soon. Which is a shame because if you think about the inefficiency involved, consumers might see lower prices in some cases (although gift shop prices would not be an example, as Scott points out - they don't want local retailers to carry their products so undercutting them would not be good for that relationship).

I have a question and I'll use Four Roses for example.

They sell bottles in the gift shop. Do the cases of what they are selling actually go to the distributer and come back, or is it simply a paper transaction?

Think it's just paper but not 100%.

That's correct.

Also, it is bad form to undercut local retailers. Think of gift shop sales as the convenience stores of the liquor world.

This is something I've never thought about,but to align with government mandates and laws it really would have to follow the same due process as all others to have them for sale on premise even though they are the source of production.I think a lot of times we take things for granted and really don't consider the back processes involved.Next time I bitch about GS prices I'll have to use some logic and remind myself of the process,weird. :skep: Not to get off topic too far some FR's OBSK.... Experimented with another bourbon/rye blend. 2:1 WT101/Ritt BIB. I think I prefer OGD 114/Ritt BIB.

Got into a couple of barrel strengths this weekend as work has been getting a bit stressful. A little Bookers on Friday night and a little GTS 12 last night...I absolutely love that GTS...too bad I only have one more bottle of it.

A little '13 WLW, this is the first WLW I have tried and don't know if I get it just quite yet.. Luckily I have a full bottle to do a lot of studying!!

Starting the evening with some Woodford Double Oaked. A nice pour over all, all the hallmarks of Woodford with an extra boost of caramels and char from the barrel.

OGD114 through most of the Sox/Cards game... and then, for the 9th inning, I cracked open one of my newly-acquired bottles of 4R SmBLE 2013, and was sipping away at it for Yet Another Weird Game-ending Play... at least the Sox won this one!

With the SmBLE, I'm going to have to spend some time learning what it's all about. Complex whiskey, though it seems a little less dark and chewy than the 2012.

Long work week finished, I'm having a big pour of OWA tonight. Showed some of the folks at work how delicious it is (though they thought it was fire-water without dilution).

Already thinking lustfully about polishing off my last bottle of Weller Centennial (louisville). Maybe I can make it last another night.

A friend brought Canadian whiskey over for the Sox game, which was fun. Don't ever get that myself, so it was a pleasant distraction.

Once the Sox won, celebrated with some KC120. Yessir.

I finally got my bottle of EH Taylor BP this weekend, and had a pour on Friday and Saturday. Obviously very powerful neat, but with a splash or two of water I got this pour to sing to me. Really good stuff.
