What bourbon are you drinking - Fall 2013

TPS BT private barrel. Haven't been a fan on my first two experiences. It's not awful, it's just not very good, and to my mind not as good as the standard BT. Poured about three fingers on ice to see how this works.

How does the color compare to the standard?

I only have my sealed "buffalo nickel" gift shop bottle to compare, but the TPS is slightly lighter and much more orange/yellow than red hue of the GS bottle.

Last night, had one last big pour from this bottle of FRSmBLE2013, moved on to try the Beam with Brandy, finished with EC12. Will definitely be opening another bottle of the FR this weekend. Didn't enjoy the Beam with Brandy so much but it could be because it was right after the excellent FR pour. I'll have to give it a few more shots on another night. Enjoyed the EC12.

Don't try this at home.

I have a cold and lost my sense of smell and taste. I thought I would try some whisky to sooth my throat and quickly discovered that all distilled spirits apparently "taste" the same under these circumstances, which surprised me, I just assumed the strength of whisky would impart at least a little character. I tested with both whisky and scotch and would've swore both were Smirnoff vodka if blindfolded. It was pretty gross, just an isopropyl alcohol nose (not really a smell, but the pungency was there) and zero flavor from Weller 12 and Highland Park 15.

I've said before that I thought OWA had too hot a finish. Well, letting it sit a couple weeks after opening does wonders. The palate is improved and the heat subsides. Yep, that is what I am drinking tonight. Bottle is getting low. Will need to repeat this experiment. ;-)
