Going to start with some FRSmB 2013 today, will try not to kill the bottle but it may happen.

Best regards, Tony

Decided to go old school this afternoon. EW black in some coke. Sometimes, it just hits the spot. The problem is, I drink it so much faster than if I pour something with a cube. Brought me back to my pre sb days

Maybe I need to give ETL another shot.

Ain't no maybe about it. ETL is one of the three great pleasures in life.

yip. no one else offers a 9 year old barrel proofer for under $40, and keeps it readily available....AND, it's damn good!

I would remind of EC BP (for which I paid a nickel less than $40) at a mere 12 YO. Chocolate covered cherries, coffee, and more dark chocolate. I really like the KC SB but I give the nod to the EC BP.

The good thing about Bourbon and Coke is if you run out of Coke it doesn't matter.

Every time I read one of these pearls it makes me think of Mark Twain ... I hope someone is writing all of this down ...

aside from the fact that I absolutely despised ECBP, I still have to give Beam the nod for making KCSB something that they keep on shelves everywhere. I had to look forever to find the ECBP, then drive clear across town the minute i found out about it just to be able to get it before the 3 bottles they just got disappeared.

Beam and HH both have the capacity to release both practically at will, but only Beam keeps it available. HH releases it, what, 3 times a year so far? Honestly, I am a fan of both companies. HH makes a lot of decent stuff at prices no one can touch, and Beam puts out some high proof stuff and keeps it easily available (Bookers, OGD 114, KCSB). So, personally, I enjoy taking advantage of the good and cheap HH stuff and the easy-to-get hihg proof/barrel proof stuff from Beam.

I dont remember seeing '12 years' on the ECBP label. Is it actually 12, or just assumed to be since EC is 12?

I'm like you. I'd give the nod to ECBP as well.

if it were only easily attainable now, like Bookers of KCSB

The other two are shared experiences.

True. The ECBPs are definitely not as easily attainable but it wasn't that difficult either for some of us. Bookers and KCSBs are definitely good ones for their availability.

Look at it another way. If Bookers or KCSB were any good would they be so easily attainable? I think the majority of people aren't too impressed by Beam's products, even the high proof ones. Me being one of them.

Sample of Vintage 17 - somewhat of a letdown, too much hype after it was discontinued. Solid overall pour, but I don't plan to seek out a full bottle.

I can't speak for the majority of people, but count me as a fan of several Beam products: KC, KC SB, Baker's, Booker's, not to mention OGD BIB and 114. I get upset with the Liquor Gods in OH that keep from getting the Big Three (AAA, VOB & OWA) but I, for one, am glad that those Beam bourbons are "so easily attainable" here.

Started comparing some 4RSBs (before forgetting which one I poured as "A" and "B", so the blind tasting will have to be repeated!). The winner was me though - loved both the OBSV as well as the OESV (diluted to 100 proof). Finishing this dreary Sunday afternoon with some ECBP - just delicious stuff!

I would almost bet that if Booker's, OGD 114, KCSB, etc were to be rationed due to occasional releases (ie, hard to find), then people would look at them much more favorably than they currently do. The whole 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' thing....the fact that they are easily attainable makes them less exciting to own....or brag about, as the case may be.

I think you are spot on here. I've been guilty as anyone (with exception of OGD 114) of shunning the upper shelf Beams simply because I know I can without any fear whatsoever of not finding them available just about anytime I want it. If roles were flipped with BTAC, we'd be scrambling around trying to find KCSB & Booker's....funny how us humans are.
