Had a small sampling of a few bourbons today (1/2 to 1 ounce each)...Smooth Ambler 10 Year Old and Henry McKenna 10 Year Old. Both were fine tasting, I thought the SA was a little rougher than I expected but still tasted good. I couldn't tell much difference between the HM10 and HH 6Y BIB, both are HH products and BIBs. I almost bought the SA but opted for a Willett SB instead.

Had a pour of the Willett SB tonight (2 ounces). Interesting pour. Will take a little getting used to. It tasted a little better with a cube than neat.

Willett 9 YR 129.4 proof, Barrel 1431, bottle 57/138, distilled in KY.

I let it air about 45 minutes for pouring. I will have another pour or two before providing tasting notes. I usually find the more I allow bottles to air out, the more I enjoy the contents. I have taken to opening every bottle regardless of contents for about 45 minutes before pouring. Sometimes I open a bottle three or four times over the course of a week or two before my first pour.

I also had 1/2 ounce pour of FRSmB 125 and 1/2 pour of WSR, 7 Year (1999).

Got to imagine it is starting to get cold in MN, even in the southern part. So a little heat from bourbon is probably pretty nice on a night like tonight.

PHC wheated. Second to last pour from the bottle.

Good stuff. Can you tell much difference between batches? I have only had the lower proof batch so far.

After talking to SmokingJoe, I grabbed a few bottles of a local Four Roses Private Selection Single Barrel. Didn't know they were signed by Jim Rutledge himself so that was a good surprise. Had a tasting of it tonight along with a Jefferson 18 and Pappy 20. The Four Roses was definitely the most intense and forward with its flavors while the Jefferson 18 and Pappy 20 were more mellow. First time having the Pappy 20 and while it is great bourbon, I would never pay above MSRP for a bottle.

What I have had, and have in backup are all the same, so no help there.

Just wish I picked up/held on to more of these. But sharing amongst friends is the good thing to do.

10 degrees now and dropping, going to need more than a healthy pour to keep warm tonight.

Temperance Traders. Its getting alot easier to resist these "produced" whiskies... Following it up with some Ezra 101. Probably headed in the direction of Baker's for the rest of the night.

I was browsing a secondhand store with the wife today and saw a nice Willett snifter, like you get at the gift shop, and for 80 cents, decided to give a snifter a shot. I am now having some more Dickel 9/103 out of it, which is quickly becoming a favorite. Bookers has been my favorite, and once Xmas gets here, I look forward having Booker's, KCSB, WFE 8 year, and the Dickel 9 all SBS, and re-evaluating how all my favorites rate against each other. The Dickel is so markedly different than any bourbon I've had, yet very remarkable in it's own way.

stopped by a buddies house and had a few sips of ORVW10, PVW20, FRsble 2013, Willett 21 (123 proof), bowman Ginger bread.. Have been seeing reviews of the Gingerbread not being overly positive but I still like it more than any I tasted today

Stagg Jr for the first time tonight. It's nice, definitely exceeding expectations after reading so many negative reviews. Perhaps not as good as ECBP but I think it's worth retail price, at least. I'll buy more when/if I come across it.

Started with some '13 OFBB and now having a vatting of some SB blend and '13 WLW. The WLW gives the SB blend a better mouthfeel IMO.

Met up with my bro and Troyce and tailgated at a local cigar shops customer appreciation event, and was able to keep from completely freezing with copious pours of Jackies 4R OESV, GBS ETL, Pappy 15, and Beam White 7yr. The Beam's pedigree is not in the same league as the others, but it was enjoyable, nonetheless.

4RSmBLE 2011

4RSmBLE 2012

4RSmBLE 2013

Tonight I would rank them in reverse order...

PHC 2010

JPS 17

PVW15 (2013)

Tonight I would rank those in the order listed.

Good for you. Only way to measure the value is to try it (and I like you approach of trying it against some other pours). I'm in the same boat - great bourbon, but if I ONLY have $130 to spend - wow, so many other options out there.

If I have a set budget for purchasing I will try to get the most for my outlay. An expensive bottle is nice but less attractive when empty, especially when the money would've bought a half case or more.

Started with Bourye last night, went on to HW Double Rye. Was going to finish off with this year's Handy, but Big Lebowski prompted a round of White Russians for the nightcap.

Had some beam&brandy the past couple nights. I'm growing to like this. When this bottle's empty, I might get another bottle.
