SLOandSteady
On vacation for the week, so I've been having pours that are new to me. Yesterday I had: Blanton's, Booker's, Smooth Ambler Old Scout. The Booker's was my favorite. Gave it a little bit of air time, then tried it neat. After doing that I put a few drops of water to open it up and really liked what I had. To me, the finish wasn't as long as I had hoped, but still tasty nonetheless. Have to say that the Blanton's was a little too easy of a drinker for me. I was kind of indifferent to the Old Scout. For the price of Blanton's, I'll probably take 4R1B most of the time. squire
I like Blantons but yes, find it designed to be more of a crowd pleaser than an enthusiast's drink. A couple more along that line that have richer profiles are Elmer Lee and Rock Hill Farms, if you haven't already tried them.
DrBob
I also wonder about that. To be fair Bull Run has right on the label that they sourced it. I would imagine aging whiskey in Oregon would be similar to Scotland and would likely be very different than their sourced (probably MGP) whiskey that was stored at least part of its life in Indiana. Yes, a three year old company selling 4-6 year old whisky is sourcing their product, that and their mash bill matches one of MGPs standards. Nothing wrong with that so long as they don't over price it.I notice some NDPs say they will be replacing the sourced product with their own make eventually. I wonder if they will change the brand name as well since the whisky will taste different.

393foureyedfox
just got home from school and had about a 1/4 ounce of Ezra 101. While I put it last place the other night in comparison to others, sipping it on its own is quite nice....sweet and a little hot.
squire
Those are exactly the first taste impressions I got from my last bottle of Ezra 101, sweet and hot.

cnybrbnhntr
Tried the PHC POH last night at the MGM pub. Really enjoyed it but I think the 6th edition was better. They are the only PHCs Ive had so I cant compare to the others. Hoping to get a couple bottles of the POH for the bunker. On a side note there is a restaurant here with AH Hirsch for around $50 per pour for the 16 year old distilled in 1974. Worth the price of admission?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Flyfish
VOB tonight. Caramel, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon. Merry Christmas! VOB is loaded with holiday spices. Love this stuff! Southern boys who know what jam cake is must also love the VOB.
jonhalter
Had a mini of KC smoked maple. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to sweet for me. I liked it more than the crown royal maple though. That was straight up syrup. 0-2 on maple finishes. Ill leave the rest alone. I bet both would be good on pancakes or maybe in some tea.

BillP
I'm on the road so had to go for whatever the local store had to offer. BT was on sale so I went for it. It's much better than I remember from several years back.

If you go sit at the bar and put some money in the machine you can probably order a glass and they'll comp it. petrel800
Working on this bottle of 4R Gift Shop OBSF picked up in Aug this year. It's been good, not great. Added some additional water tonight that has brought the wood forward through the middle, but also made the finish some what vegetal, not in an unpleasant way, but for some reason not overly desirable either. Love the entry, the wood in the middle is nice, can't wrap myself around the finish. That being said the finish does linger a good while, definitely a trait I like.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
