It's rare that I drink the same thing two nights in a row, but I'm back after that bottle of Blantons.

first time with Blanton's tonight . . . . $55 a bottle I dont think its that enjoyable.

Were you not suitably impressed Doug? You were supposed to be impressed, that's what the little horsey is all about.

.... And the fancy dimpled bottle. Don't forget that. ;)

I had some EWW in a flask while playing golf this afternoon with a good buddy... then a WT101 mini bottle after bball with the same friend tonight. Then came home and finished off the rest of the EWW flask.

first time with Blanton's tonight, after a classmate gave it to me yesterday. It is pretty enjoyable, I must say. But at $55 a bottle I dont think its that enjoyable.

Classmate gave you a bottle? Nice gift!

I rarely buy any Blanton's. I like it but I think it costs way too much. Have you had Elmer T. Lee yet? It's much more cost effective.

well, she gave me a 50ml sample bottle of it. Id never had it before. at last semester's finals party, she was tanked and downed my Bookers when I offered her a sip, and she felt bad about it, and got me this.

I found it enjoyable, but knowing the price of it, I think it's overpriced. It has a good taste to it, but seemed to lack any nose to it. Even the glass barely smelled of bourbon once finished. The bottle looks like a little grenade, glad she didnt give it to me in class!

Yeah, Ive had ETL. I stopped by my best friends house on Christmas and we shared a few pours. His favorite is ETL, mine is Dickel 9, so we each had some of both, as we'd never had each others' favorites. I found it good, but not something Im gonna run out and buy, which is good, since its nowhere to be found anyway. He loved the Dickel 9. We dont often agree on bourbons....the only thing we both like is Dickel 9, OGD114, and KC. I was amazed he liked the 114, as he is not a high proof guy, and prefers the 80-90 proofers.

I knew where a stash of ETL was last month, but I told a guy on here by PM where it was when he was looking for it, so now even that stash is gone. I just asked him to leave one on the shelf for someone else, which he actually did. Since then, Ive not seen anymore.

History tidbit: Blanton's fancy bottle was originally designed as a Christmas decanter for Kentucky Tavern back in the days when the major brands issued specially shaped bottles for the holidays.

I did not know that... I've seen a lot of Kentucky Tavern talk here lately. Who made it (or is it still around), was it good? Any comps to current brands?

It was good, very good back in the early 80s, a National number one seller. After the consolidations it bounced around under different ownership, currently the label holds 4 year old 80 proof Barton.

Am I the only one that starts thinking of Monty Python's The Holy Grail when I pour a Blanton's? I mean, it's the Holy Bourbon of Antioch!

"O Lord, bless this thy Bourbon that with it we mayest drinkest thine enemies under the table. In the mercy"

And my wife just stares and me and rolls her eyes. (She stops there as long as I actually give her a pour as well)

While not a single barrel like Blanton's, I do find similarities between AAA10 and Blanton's. They share the same mashbill. I have wondered if AA 90 proof is a closer comparison given its higher proof than AAA10.

Isn't the 90 proof AA 3 years old?

Not sipping yet, but when the 5 o'clock whistle blows, I am going to make myself a ginger old fashioned with some Old Crow Reserve. I made a ginger simple syrup the other day with some fresh ginger and will substitute it for the normal simple syrup/sugar cube in the typical recipes.

OGD 114 on the rocks last night to watch the Bruins/Habs hockey game. I should have kept the TV off and doubled the pour. Montreal was 100% on their game, and Boston was 90% unfocused and 10% bizarro goalie swap.

Some EWSB 04. It's grown on me and settled into a very nice caramel sweetness. Not seeing the more robust profile, actually think the 03 is better in that regard, but its a nice pleasant sipper at a good price.

Wild Turkey 101 Proof Rye - the current, 1 liter release. Quite tasty. Great value. Yeah, I know it's not a bourbon. But it is what I'm drinking.
