What bourbon are you drinking? - Winter '13/'14

Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage 2013, barrel 943. About 80% of the times I try this, it is amazingly good, the other 20% it is OK, can't explain the 20%: caramel, a bit of Heaven Hill leathery notes, some vegetal notes. Very satisfying, and its price is great for that rate of enjoyment. Thank you Heaven Hill.

Elijah Craig 12. This bottle has changed a bit now that it's below half. Less caramel, more peanut. Still a great pour though.

Started the night with a very soft vanilla(marshmallow) mellow oak EWSB03, then finished with some Ritt BIB.

The Ritt has been better than most. Which was a crapshoot since this bottle had the cap broken and sat for months like that before I got to it. I remember dropping something on it, but didn't notice that the cap had broken, so it's had a very long open air time to it, and apparently it has done some wonders to it!

Had some AE at a local place after dinner. Never had any AE products before so I was eager to try it. I found it to be a soft easy drinking pour, sweet, smooth, nothing harsh about it. No idea how much the bottle goes for but this single neat pour was a pleasant after dinner dram.

No idea if these are new ETLs. Just saying that I had the same fear that a new bottle I purchase would be different. The first couple pours tasted off but I'm hoping it opens up after a little bit.

you never know though. In one of the other threads, Beam is trying to figure out a release date for Booker's 25th, while some states have already had it come and go, apparently before it was supposed to have even been released. You gotta be quick on some things in bourbon world!

Accidents like that give me pause when I consider the number of posts from those who go to lengths to keep their Bourbon away from exposure to air.

Yet another winter storm dumped about five more inches of snow on us today. Had to dig out again when I got home after work. When I came in after shoveling, my wife had a pour all ready for me. :cool: And she picked a good one too. A nice healthy pour of some dusty DSP 16/24 SW Old Fitz BIB. Yep, she's a keeper. Almost 32 years, and still going strong. :grin:

Tonight I thought KCSB a bit too hot, so I added a bit of water trying to get it back to regular ol KC stats, and I thought it helped. Usually I want them 'hotter' so this is the first time ive meant to add water to one.

I'm thinking my preference is shifting a bit, as I tend to like 100-105ish on proof now.

The one I'm working on is a 90 proofer as well. I purchased it just prior to Christmas (in the wild), but didn't get around to opening it up until recently. Hope yours opens up like mine has.

I decided to try a GTS 2013 and Stagg Jr. vatting, maybe 60:40 leaning towards the Sr. It's just okay. Definitely has more robust aroma from Sr. but Jr. is adversely effecting the palate. Oh well.

Went back to the ETL (quality control check and all). Three fingers gets me to half way on this bottle.

So, by my calculations I'm good for about 10 pours (my normal pour is two fingers) per bottle, as I just can't seem to squeeze that bottle for 25 pours like the Fox. :frown:

Im a sipper, so 1 ounce pours are usually adequate, though I often may have one ounce of this and one of that....

Having a pour of ETL now. This new bottle has opened up quite a bit since I opened it a few days ago. It's quite good tonight but still not as good as the previous bottle I had. It's not tasting as rich in flavor. Tasting a little watered down so far.
