Its been a really long time since I have had one of those "ordinary" bottlings but I picked up a mini while traveling last month and it blew my mind with how good it was. I mean, part of me thinks that you would put your best stuff in minis, but I suspect it was pretty much what you'd get in the bigger bottle. Actually preferred to the store selection I had open at home at the time.

I think even my store picks of OBSV 100 are probably a step up, albeit a small step. But what I sometimes forget is that they're not taking that step from a bad spot to begin with :)

Last night I did a side by side of old fashioneds. 8 year old Old Heaven Hill 86 proof vs. Dickel Rye. The recipe was a splash of simple syrup, Angostura bitters, Fee Bros. Orange bitters, a cherry, and a small splash of water. Both were fantastic. I give the slight nod to the rye because of how the minty notes of the rye interacted with the fruit flavors. I would not turn one down made with either base whiskey.

Had some TPS selected BT and standard OWA last night during True Detective. They were both terrible. Something was very wrong with me, and I guess I'll need to look more into it tonight.

I'm enjoying a generous pour of William Larue Weller, in celebration of a very small, possible, ray of hope in a morass of Social Security BS that I'm fighting through, trying to help my aged Father file his last (I assume) taxes with the IRS, and the State of Michigan.

The WLW is wonderful.... the rest is total BS!!!!

Back to the "non-special but really pretty damn good" FRSB. I'm a man on a mission - and this bottle is the target :)

PHC 6th. Someone asked me on Saturday what my favorite bourbon was...I stammered around a bit...and said I wasn't sure, but my favorite Barrel Proofer was GTS...Well, I had forgot about this PHC 6th and am reminded of it now...It's my favorite bourbon. I realize that PHC is BP, but GTS is still King of the Barrel Proofs...Odd to say, I know...

But at least True Detective is always great!

Having another pour of Booker's 25th. If you have time to give it some air and maybe a drop or two of water I really like it.

I'm with you, Joe! I too am currently enjoying a healthy pour of PHC 6th Blended Mashbills right now (thank GOD I have another 2 in the bunker,) and I definitely think it's a top 5 all-timer for me...I freaking adore it.

Hearing probably incorrect rumors about VSOF12 being discontinued, revisiting it tonight. Honestly nothing that special. It'll sell better as Larceny anyway :slappin:

A pour of Taos Lightning. New Mexico aged LDI. Its interesting in the sense that it is perhaps the driest bourbon I have had, but other than that its not remarkable. Curious to try some of the distillers own make when it gets mature enough. They age at about 7000 ft and not only do you have large winter summer swings in temperature in New Mexico, but also can swing 50 degrees in a single day. I understand they are semi-open barrelhouses, which makes for a different aging experience than Kentucky.

SB blend 50:50. Not totally working for me, but I'm a little congested tonight so it's not a fair shake. May need to shake up the ratio.

I had both the OF12 and the OFBIB last week. I thought the BIB was a bit better anyway. But, I also dont find either to be markedly different than Larceny, which is dirt cheap right now with the rebates.

Third night straight hitting the FRSB, and the shine is starting to wear off. Threw a couple drops from an OESV in there and WHAM! Completely different pour!
