Hosted a Four Roses tasting on Friday night. We were examining the variation the yeast provides across one of the mashbills. I didn't have any OESQ, so we went with the B 60/35/5 mashbill. The OBSV took the biggest hit, but not because it was the most popular. It was positioned as the "reference" yeast and everyone tasted it first. Plenty of inexperienced guys with barrel proofers, so they were pouring freely. Nobody complained though :D It was the youngest and highest proof, and the combination lead to this particular bottle being quite a bit hotter than the others. It was still a very tasty whiskey and tamed with just a splash of water showed the creamy OBSV goodness. My favorite from the night was probably either the OBSO or OBSQ, the latter of which had some awesome bananas foster flavors going on. The Q had nice age on it, 12 years 5 months, and as MOKD and other members have said, the Q and F yeasts almost become cocktails at that age. Lots of unique fruit coming out to dance with the vanilla, honey, and wood. After everyone had a chance to sample as many as they wanted I pulled out the 2012 and 2013 SmBLE to show everyone how the different recipes could mingle to create something exceptional. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

This horrible weather forced me to get back into the Stagg Jr (134.4). Does the nose on this fool anybody else? Smells like liquid candy until it hits my tongue. Not so gentle reminder that I've gotta sip....

Having some PHC4 from a SB member. Holy cow. This is my first ever PHC I've ever had which now seems really dumb

Flew into Phoenix and drove down to Tucson for the week. Hit a couple spots in Phoenix and a few in Tucson today. A lot of stuff on the shelf but nothing exciting. I settled on a Total Wind barrel select of Angels Envy. It's my first time trying Angel's envy and I'm impressed. Now I need to kill the bottle before Friday!

I can't believe all the random labeled Bourbons on the shelf and how little there actually is to choose from. I have better luck in Iowa.

Opened my bottle of Michter's US*1 small batch. Very interesting. Not sure how I feel about it yet.

Has anyone else tried this?

Rather than drink from my 3 week old vatting, I tried a small sample of freshly mixed EC12/ECBP. Results? Still some tasty shit.

Moved onto a slightly larger pour of Lot B for dessert.

The PHC4 was simply marvelous. You are fortunate to know someone who was willing to share 'cause they ain't no more where that came from.

I've learned there are a lot of ppl on SB that are that generous.

A most enjoyable pour of OF Signature.

I'll gladly send anyone a sample of this rare nectar. :P

Had a nice 3-way blind SBS of some SB blend. Wanted to see if a small smidge of WLW would make a marked difference - and found I'm blessed with a palate as sharp as a bowling ball  Couldn't tell any difference between the three, but loved them all! Have always loved my 60/40 SB Blend (heavy on the OWA), but going to test a 65/35 and 70/30 to see what happens, since OWA seems easier to come by than W12 these days.

CEHT 1B. Not bad. Pretty damned good actually. Worth the price of admission? Can't say yet. But I enjoy it quite a bit more than most of the other Taylor's I've had. Better than the Tornado, even. Glad to have picked it up at any rate.

Back to the little Stagg and man am I falling for this bottle. Really opens up nicely with a little (and I mean little) drop or two of water.

Sean, the Tornado is overrated IMO. Great story weak bourbon. YMMV.

This Rock Hill Farms bourbon is spot on gorgeous, this evening. It's saying something when a $50 whiskey is drinking even more richly...What viscosity! I'm not sure any of the bourbon from the sides of the glass are ever going to make it back to the pool left in the bottom. :yum:
