For no apparent reason I decided tonight was a great night for some Old Fitz DSP16

Just joined you, Gary. Pulled out some '84 and it's drinking very well!

Took a punt on a bottle of Rowan's Creek small batch as amazon had it with free delivery. Had some neat last night in a Glencairn. Very impressed. It's not one I've seen much about on SB. Believe it's from Whillett, isn't it?

Interesting, I would think the word "punt" means you booted it not bought it. I have had it and as Squire mentioned it is a KBD (Willett) product. It is a good offering. I seem to recall that it is slightly over 100 proof (may be wrong). I prefer Noah's Mill (another KBD offering) but for the right price, especially given your options, Rowan's Creek is a good option. I recently did a Willett (KBD) tasting...I ranked them Noah's Mill>Rowan's Mill>Willett Pot Still>Johnny Drum. They were all pretty close. Enjoy!

Wipe away the pain! In a nice way!

It's not so much the pain as it's wiping away the urge to strangle idiots that I encounter on a daily basis. ;-).

Looking more and more like a snow day in these parts. Starting with some 4RSB, and seeing some EWSB 2002 store selection in my future. From there who knows...

Some store selection EWSB that is a week shy of 10 yrs old. Nothing jumps out at you but a splendid smooth, sweet pour.

At any price but especially at that price.

Agreed sir. It really stands up nicely next to bourbons that are twice the price and more. Thanks to you for advocating for this one which is partly why I made the point of going out to get it.

This shall become a regular pour for me.

Four Roses single barrel (standard and very good, though not as magnificent, to me, as the last single barrel I had - the last was lighter, cooler and more floral; this has the Four Roses floral note, but a warmer big caramel tone that is nice, but not the same as the last barrel, which I was craving) and Elijah Craig 12 year. Both very satisfying pours that are extra satisfying because they seem like good values.

I suppose the most obvious thing is the loss of the age statement. OWA in the current bottle shape still noted it was 7 years old until the past what, 18-24 months or so? Might still be a few around. All paper label OWA in the older style bottle is at least 7yo but there is an entire thread on how to date those.

Sorry for not being clear earlier. I am wondering with the most recent bottling and label, what indicates the earlier batches that tastes better than the more current year releases. The reason I'm asking is, I might go look for the bottles that might have been sitting on the shelves for a few years if it is only a few years ago that OWA was much better before it got to this much younger profile.

There are laser printed date codes on the bottles.

went to my local steakhouse/bourbon bar tonight and saw they had a bottle of Stagg '13 and Van Winkle Lot B so I went ahead and had both. Only problem was they keep cucumbers in their water pitchers for taste, so no way I'm adding that to my Stagg. This year's is certainly a hot whiskey, but still manageable.

I decided to have a very healthy pour of some SW Old Fitz BIB when I got home from work today. Ahhhhhhhhh….. Much better. it's been kind of a weird week at work, and will probably get weirder tomorrow. Nothing like a little prep work.

Based on the BOTM thread, picked up a bottle of Smooth Ambler, Old Scout today. Started neat, added bit of water and, wow! Very tasty and fruity with a good sweet spot and nice finish.
