What bourbon are you drinking? - Winter '13/'14

While it certainly helps to like wheated bourbon to enjoy the W12, I would say a large part of the love on SB is due to 1) the sheer quality to price ratio(one of the best in whiskeydom in my opinion) and 2) its value as a component of the SB blend.

For me, part 2 is 95% of it. I'll admit - I probably enjoy 1 oz neat from each bottle, and the rest via the SB Blend. Although it is almost the same with OWA. Not that either are lacking on their own, but just so freaking amazing combined!

I'm enjoying a little WLW 134.8 while watching Americans take on the Russians. As a Red Wings fan I didn't know if I should cheer or be upset when Datysuk scored.

I am the same way. When I open a bottle of each, I'll go straight into blending different variances of the portions, and the leftover of each will be a little pour of each that I drink individually. I just enjoy the blends so much more. I can nose the W12 all night tho:)

While I do see it sometimes for over $50 at stores that generally charge more for everything, I can routinely find it for $46 at most places.

FYI, sometimes even cheaper than that (at Kroger's Spirit Shop this week)!

Small blind SBS of my 60/40 SB Blend (OWA/W12) against a 70/30 vatting of the same (both heavier on the OWA). Today, the 70/30 won me over, but such an important decision requires further evaluations before any drastic action. As you might imagine, the differences were subtle, and surprising in that I thought the 70/30 had a longer finish (I expected that to suffer with giving up more of the age?). Maybe not quite as well balanced as the 60/40 - leaning more towards sweet and less towards wood (but apparently I like the sweet better!) Looking forward to trying this a few more times in the coming weeks.

Am I the only person on here that doesn't hold Weller in that high regard? I like it, but it's far from my favourite. I see it's a real favourite amongst a lot of the SB members though. Perhaps it stands out if you're more a wheater fan?

I suggest you do. OWA and W12 are worlds apart in flavor and viscosity. No you are not alone. Weller 12 is on the bottom of the bourbon list for me too except for bottles more than 10 years old.
