BigRich
There's some serious blog hate going on here guys. We have a lot of solid members who have blogs, link to in their signature, and participate in SB as great members. Why the hate fellas? A blog signature link is like a bad whiskey product. Don't partake if you don't want to. No need to go around tearing fellas new buttholes or anything.
ModernThirst
There's some serious blog hate going on here guys. We have a lot of solid members who have blogs, link to in their signature, and participate in SB as great members. Why the hate fellas? A blog signature link is like a bad whiskey product. Don't partake if you don't want to. No need to go around tearing fellas new buttholes or anything.I may re-add the link sometime in the future, but at the same time, I understand that it must be frustrating for long time members to see people drift in and out of the forums basically serving as nothing other than spam for outside websites. Boards have official rules and also general etiquette. I unintentionally violated some of that etiquette, so I took down the link. After some time, if people udnerstand I'm not here trying to pimp a website, I may re-add it. Again, I'm proud of our site, and am happy to share it, but that's not why I'm here.(for the record, the second time I linked our site, someone asked for photos on a particular bourbon, and another poster actually posted one of my photos with no attribution, so i linked to the tasting notes the photo was pulled from.)By the way- I like your site! Nice stuff there! I'll keep checking it. Edited May 22, 2014 by ModernThirst
HighInTheMtns
solid membersThat's the key here. It's not the blog in a vacuum. I gave my reasoning before, no need to repeat it, and props to Bill for recognizing why I was bothered about his posts.
BonVivant84
EC 21 for $139. Had it at a bar for my birthday and loved it. The oak was so understated while neat, but with the addition of just a few drops of water...boom all oak up front. Looking forward to making this one a special occasion sipper. Interestingly, the first time I tried it I did so with ice and disliked it wholeheartedly. Then I tried it neat and it was a game changer; I eventually secured about 9 bottles of it. Huge fan. gooneygoogoo
I'll wager that of any Internet forum, SB.com has the awesomest two guys named Joe who smoke... I don't know what they smoke. Probably something. Anyways thanks to the Houston variety this time around. Love that stuff...mine is almost empty

BigRich
I suppose it is a sign of the times and an early indication we are getting numb to the sticker shock but I don't think it is a good price at all. Might be cheaper than other places but it most likely should be a good deal less than that to begin with. Under $100 at least. Barterhouse may seem thinner to some palates but I like it at least as well or better and at $75 or so (MSRP anyway) I believe I would buy it over spending nearly twice as much for EC20/21/22 etc even with the taint of Diageo and the BS marketing campaign clinging to it like a dead possum at high noon. I really wasn’t buying the good stuff when EC18 and EC20 were around (at previous prices I can only dream about)...so that whole frame of reference that the more experienced members here have for EC is something I lack. For EC I started with the 12 and even then I tended to mostly use it for making an old fashioned but then along came ECBP which really opened up my eyes to their juice and made me start craving it. By the time I got to EC21 and fell for it the only thing I had to compare it to (price wise) was current market for older bourbons....and given that and a decent amount of time comparing prices $139 seemed like a no brainer

I have bought a lot of whiskey at that price or more and some of it was pretty bad considering what I spent at least to me, so I am as guilty as anyone. I am pretty new to the game as well and my knowledge of older whiskey can be directly attributed to the generosity of other whiskey drinkers with a lot more experience than I, most of whom are from this board!I just think it interesting how quickly we get desensitized to the ever increasing prices. I've heard from others that the EC18 was very spotty with a lot of bottle to bottle variation. And that was at the $45-50 price range. Not interested in taking a $150 flier on the EC21 or whatever year they are up to now.

Not interested in taking a $150 flier on the EC21 or whatever year they are up to now.I've had the same experience. I feel like he 12 year is a very oaky bourbon for 12 years old already. the 18 is even woodier, and the 21 (naturally) even moreso...a touch too much for my tastes. Really, I think I prefer the BP first, and the rest in ascending order by age (if you include the original 20 year as well).
