Noticed a downtown Dallas store was showing 33 bottles of ETL Comm in stock, (which seemed odd since only one other of their stores showed any stock, and it was only one bottle). Called to confirm and they said "Come on over".

Couldn't find it on the shelf when I got there, so I had to ask. While I was waiting, the distributor dropped off 3 bottles of Balcones Single Malt. I asked if I could get one of those as well, and they happily obliged.

After several minutes, my worst fears were confirmed, and the ETL stock turned out to be vapor, nothing more than a computer error. As apology, they asked if I wanted a second bottles of the Balcones, which I happily took.

They also offered to take my name and set some ETL aside for me if/when it arrived, as well as some 2014 LE 4R, which had just appeared in their "expected soon" inventory.

But to your point - CC customers (like me) would never cast a shadow there. I don't mind even paying a 2% upcharge for credit (several stores have different prices), but I never carry that kind of cash around, nor would want to have to pull from the bank for a purchase. Budgeting becomes a lot more challenging, although you make great points on the benefit of that lack of traceability from the business perspective. Must not have a lot of CC only customers!

Not considering it. Just find it interesting when places don't take them.

The only error was that their stock showed up on-line. It was either already spoken for or you weren't the "right" customer.

you could be right Joe, but they did initially tell me they didn't have any, then when I mentioned the 33 that showed online, he put me on hold, then came back and said "I guess it came in today". Then they had three employees "searching" for it while I waited. Not to mention, I'd think the 3 bottles of Balcones single Malt would have been a hotter commodity than the ETL (even though I'd have preferred the ETL). They did quickly adjust the inventory list while I was there.

I know Liquor Barn in Louisville would often show items in their inventory only for them to be bottles opened for tasting. I believe they have since taken their on-line inventory off-line.

ha! I went to the store that was showing one bottle. Manager said it had already sold and the chain had received 36 bottles for the state. Got a bottle of bookers batch 2013-17. So not a waste of a trip.

I called that store too!

There are a couple of Houston stores showing a few bottles now.

weird thing was, ETL had completely vanished from their online inventory for a few weeks (as in, it would not display it as a valid product name)

Just picked up a bottle of 4R SBLE! Wasn't expecting to see it so soon either but I'm glad nonetheless.

Well fellas, we are talking about the same store(s) then.

Their web front-end is linked directly to their inventory. I know this from a similar experience last year.

I was really excited to pickup a bottle of Parker's Heritage Promise of Hope today. I told a couple of my buddies about it and we were all excited to try a pour. 30 minutes Later I get a text from one of my buddies that he won a lottery and was getting to buy a bottle of Pappy 15. One of the worst one-up jobs I have ever seen. He's coming over and we are going to try them both. I guess its a win-win.

Sak - sounds like you were really slighted. Getting your friend to taste your whiskey and bring a bottle of Pappy 15 for you to drink? Terrible problem to have.

Wow, there are some great Scotch prices in there.

Yeah, great prices on everything. Just a helpful hint. Delete all pictures of liquor from your phone. What happens at the liquor store stays at the liquor store, except what you bring home. When that happens you just have to make up a good story.

The wife already found out and actually didn't really seem that bothered, guess I should have stocked up more lol

I'm jealous, I had to travel to make a drive to another state to get regular ETL last week. ETL is a favorite of mine. Hopefully I'll be able to get a hold of one of the commemoratives eventually.

Got a Buffalo Trace Experimental in a moment of weakness. You never really know what you're getting for fairly pricey bottle. But I loved this one. Experiment was barrel entry proof, this one went in at 115 proof, aged 11+ years, BT rye mashbill #1. Great nose, butterscotch and toffee, good mouth feel, not much spice, great finish. Had to have a couple pours. This one may not last long.

We've got a sickness - what's it called, whiskycollectitis nervosa?

Yes, yes. That is my affliction. I'm only satisfied when I carry out a box of six. This time a year ago one or two at max was the cure. Now when I do that I'm always second guessing myself shortly after I leave.

The only worse is to walk out empty handed.

You guys aren't sick you just need a second diagnosis, take a generous amount of Bourbon internally and call me in the morning.
