Really? The bottle languishing on my shelf begs to differ. It's just not that good.

Never said it was 'good.' Some people think Baby Saz is 'good.' Its a quality young malt that's hard to come by. I appreciate it for what it is. I also vat it with Redbreast 12 CS to make it exceptionally badass. :)

I dunno, it's not for sale here and I bet I could have a case by this time next week.

In Seattle on business. Passed on a standard ETL at $43.99. Bad enough, and the taxes only add insult to injury.

Welcome to our world.

Sorry about that ETL price - not sure where you saw that. My usual place has it for $35.99.

I can see a vatting of RB12CS and Stranahans at about 1000:1 being very good!

The grocery store here in Iowa has expanded its selection again, adding Willett Pot Still, and Noah's Mills. We sampled those at the distillery, enjoyed them, passed for now. I believe each was $50.

Passed up on this...

Didn't want to but it was 355 out the door...

Yikes - don't blame you. Have had some amazing aged bourbon, but that proof and age would scare me a bit. I would definitely have to taste it and be completely blown away. I bought a gift shop 25 yr rye, which for my palate was too over-oaked (and it was 250 at the time). Had I tried it, would have saved myself a good chunk of change (although they weren't offering samples at the time).

May be awesome may be a hot oak bomb. I am as much of a Willett fan as any here and I would have passed at that price. In fact I did pass on those or similar at the gift shop for $350 pre tax. Can't begrudge pricing that undercuts the secondary market. But maybe now nobody gets it:skep:

The price was 329.99 but after the 9.5% tax, it's pushing 360

Dang, for that kind of money, I'd go on vacation to KY, and come home with a bunch of souvenirs.

A couple tough passes today . . .

Apparently I can across a very limited Elijah Craig release. I was tempted, but I couldn't afford the asking price. That being said, I've never had a barrel aged bourbon, so I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and go back.

Hahahahahaha, I almost got through that with a straight face. Barrel aged, ha!

Also left this really limited release. Apparently it's limited because this store went all in and bought them all.

I'd consider opening a retail operation with that much gross profit

It's not profit until somebody actually buys one.

How much was the Forgiven? That sure is a pretty tall stack of boxes

That's a ridiculous price for ECBP. I really hope no one gets suckered into buying that bottle.

That store went all in on the Forgiven as well. I think it was like $56.

Funny thing on the ECBP. It's a bigger smaller store if that makes any sense. They get some of the allocated stuff, but its obvious they are an after thought when it comes to getting any substantial quantity of it. The ECBP is the only thing I've ever seen them "mark up." They actually had Stagg Jr and Barterhouse on the shelf $5 lower than I've seen it anywhere in GA. I'm pretty sure the distributor did the guy a "favor" by giving him one bottle of the ECBP and told him it was super limited. I suppose the guy really doesn't know what he has and thinks it's a really limited item.

Even so, the wholesale cost of that bottle is probably ~$35-ish. How many other bottles do they mark up 400%+?

Assuming that the distributor didn't over charge him. Hey at the end of the day, I don't really care what he charges for it. It's his bottle of ECBP. If he gets it, good for him. If someone gets taken for 125, oh well, they either want it that bad, or they don't know what they're doing. Don't feel bad for either reason. Especially being ignorant. No excuse in this day and age with smart phones and Internet.

Went traveling for work today, which doesn't happen often and make a side trip coming home.

Only thing that was of interest was a lone bottle of ETL, just looked at it like "meh" and left it for another day, or person as is likely

Not if they only buy a case (3). More like $51. It really depends.

I know a local guy (small store) that just wanted a case of OWA107 just to fill his shelf. His cost was 50% higher than normal retail for every other store in the area. So after the standard margin: there they sit $46.95 each.

That ECBP at $150 will sell at that price. Guaranteed.

Perfect example of it depends on where you are. Where are you?

I'm sure if stores around here can regularly sell ECBP as low as $43 they are not paying more than $40. Weller 12 is regularly $22 and OWA is $25. So, I'd guess they are paying $20 or less at wholesale.

I was buying ECBP for $42 when it first came out last year. This year, not the same story. Cost is up 25-40%, so $48 to $59.

No question those are typical wholesale prices. I see price sheets often or spirits mngrs or owners just tell me how much they're paying for stuff, so you're right. However, distributors play games - both with stores and among each other.

Seeing as though people really want to buy bourbon, there is pressure on the retailers to stock deep and wide. Some stores just do what they can. It's not "fair" to everyone.
