MyOldKyDram
I don't even know what I passed up today. Everything, but I'll go ahead and assume it wasn't anything special. Went into the Barn and didn't even go down the bourbon aisle. Grabbed some beer and tequila and ambled on outta there.

thebwood
Rhetoric at $90. In a random grocery store down in the MO Ozarks. I hesitated because I don't know much about it.Now I regret not getting it. 20 year old bourbon is hard to come by. Ill never find it in DC, and if I do, the price will be ridiculous. All of the local stores by me jack up limited releases special big time. All of them.
HD 335
Two bottles of ECBP 5th release, $55 each. I already have 3 now and feel these are starting to become easier to get. No need to stock up on more.

393foureyedfox
passed on lots of stuff here in tampa that I cant usually find in KY. stagg jr, EWSB 01/02/03/and04 bottlings, tons of charter 8 year a hirsch 20 year at $79 (dont know anything about those), jeffersons 100% rye, hancocks reserve presidents single barrel, RHF, old scout 7 and 10 year. the OS10 year almost tempted me. I did fall prey to a 1995 bottling of Bookers though....there was no saying no!
jwilson82
Found some nice bottles but all too pricey for me.Barterhouse $90Old Blowhard $165Thomas H Handy $160Wild Turkey Tradition $120Wild Turkey Forgiven $70Stagg Jr $75This store definitely seems to have a line on some of the harder-to-find bottles, but I feel like the prices are just too high. Even the more common stuff is overpriced compared to what I've seen around town. Bakers $45, Bookers $55, Knob Creek $30, etc. I'm torn as to whether I should spend some dollars in an effort to get on a list for something I really want (BTAC). I probably won't
BootsOnTheGround
a hirsch 20 year at $79 (dont know anything about those)Product of used cooperage therefore "bourbon" is no where to be found on label. Basically tastes like if filled a used bourbon barrel with water and let it sit for 20 years, filtered the crap out of it, and then added some caramel color. Oh, and then tried to sell it for $80 cause it says "Hirsch" on it.

Oh, and then tried to sell it for $80 cause it says "Hirsch" on it.It's a bit better than that, at least to me. Not superb perhaps like the HW21 rye for example which is also aged in used cooperage but certainly a nice whiskey. And it is a style we may not ever see again, bourbon mash aged in used cooperage, from an Illinois distillery that probably doesn't exist any more (still some dispute it seems as to exactly which distillery it comes from). And it is not likely to be something you can find in a bar to try before you buy. The attempt by Preiss Imports, who apparently found these "orphan bottles", to associate it with the Hirsch name is probably unfortunate. But dismissing unusual bottles out of hand can sometimes cause you to miss out on some good ones. Like the aforementioned HW21 rye.And this one. YMMV. YMMV.I've got a bottle of the Hirsch 20 that I've been meaning to open up. I bought it because the store owner had specifically set it aside for me. Even if the whiskey ends up being mediocre, maintaining that relationship with the guy netted me a WLW and GTS last fall. I can always blend it with something that needs mellowed out . . .
