That slow boat from Bardstown by way of Beijing finally arrived?

Finally got that barrel around Florida and up the Mississippi. The two catfish they hired to transport them must be tired.

Boy! That has to be a sight. The MSL barrels were picked well over a year ago and nowhere in sight. Although they did get word that they were coming soon. Let us know what your impressions are. I honestly don't remember what the ones we picked taste like. They were the samples in the newspaper article that made the rounds a while back. It will be like tasting them all over again. Price?

Congratulations!

Nice selections Eric. Your store is going to be mobbed once word gets out. Wish I could work out a quick trip there this weekend.

We were happy with the yield. For those of you coming for the bourbon festival, we will make sure some are available that week.

We opened a bottle of each but my palate is wrecked from allergies at the moment.

I came across a couple of bottles of '03 EWSB, which was a nice year in my opinion. Even better, this batch was 10yr 8mo from barreling to bottling, which is a good amount more aged than the typical EWSB I have picked up. So they came home with me.

Can't stop myself...another bottle of 4R Private Selection Barrel Proof...this time OESK

I guess I'll just keep buying it until I don't see it on the shelves anymore.

Store pick of Russell's reserve SmBSB that I had a small hand in helping to select has arrived. Eddie Russell was in town with the samples when we selected it a couple of months ago. Really liked the sample so looking forward to seeing if it is the same in the bottle. Original proof as I recall was a round 112 so they cut it down to 110 (which seems kind of stupid to me but I didn't get a say. That is the WT way apparently) and it was around 8 1/2 years old. Still trying to get the exact age.

Sample was a nice balance of woody/vanilla and caramel with perhaps a touch of fruit on the back of the palate as I recall with a nice fairly long slightly dryer finish. Look forward to trying it soon and expect it might stop by at a Wednesday tasting soon!

Just grabbed one of these today. Can't wait to try it.

Will be curious to hear what you think of it! If you like it then I helped pick it, if you don't then it was the owners decision over my strenuous objection...

I ended up coming home with three Crown barrel selects. A Henry McKenna, 10 year, Warehouse P. They had two barrel picks, Warehouse P and F. The P is very good. I would compare it to some of the better store select EWSB 2003/04s that I have had. I also picked up a couple of Four Roses Barrel Strengths, OBSV (117.8 proof) and OBSQ (121.2 proof).

Picked up these two today at 2 stores that I've never been to. SA VOS 11-year and a Beam's Eight Star (my first dusty?).

The Eight Star is a current product. Blend.

I agree - 03 was an excellent year.

Came across a '09 Birthday Bourbon in my travels through NE this week. Grabbed it as I was in charge of bringing bourbon for the group. Unfortunately, there was no way to get it home, but the few glasses I had out of it were enjoyable. It was definitely a different pour, much drier than the usual bourbon, but I found it enjoyable.
